My first TV interview on 15 November on the latest Israel-Palestinian conflict. I thought long and hard about speaking on the record given the work we do. It was time. There is no day after (currently). There are only hours of hell. #IsraelPalestineConflict

The rubble can be cleared in two years and people can be temporarily resettled in other areas in #Gaza in prefabricated housing. Israel will have to let in the excavation and other equipment/machinery required.
. @_NadaAlTaher & I spoke to senior officials involved in reconstruction in #Gaza. They think the idea that it needs 15yrs + to rebuild is an exaggeration: if the will was there, it could be done in much less time without displacing the population

Here is the growing geopolitical battle, of which Ukraine and Gaza will be a part. Russian oil sales to China and India have increased markedly (by 26% overall in 2024). In fact, India is now the biggest exporter of refined fuel to Europe AND the second biggest buyer of Russian crude oil. Can the US sanctions its way to weakening Putin or do so by collapsing the oil price? In the 1980s, it was widely believed that Saudi Arabia colluded with the US and dumped oil prices to collapse the Soviet Union. In an era of Arab states hedging, I think that will be a lot more difficult. "Cleaning out Gaza" won't help build confidence in the US. Trump Threatens to Strangle Russia’s Economy with an Oil Price Collapse. Is He Bluffing?

It won’t happen dear Ezzedine. (Unless someone can crowd fund or launch a Gaza Meme coin for $100bn+) What does worry me is that the US President’s idea will provide rocket fuel for those extremists who want to “clean out” the West Bank of Palestinians.
Is there a sequence for the suggested US expansions? Does Canada and Greenland come first or Gaza? And is the US going to "buy" Gaza (like Greenland) or just "take it"? And from who: #Hamas who controls it or #Israel who doesn't? #Gaza #Canada #Greenland

The gauntlet has been laid but it’s a little disingenuous. To start with, Arab states and Palestinians were getting closer to a workable governance arrangement in Gaza. Secondly, they want future Gaza to be part of a two-state solution. I hope the US President and his advisers listen closely.
BREAKING: National Security Advisor Mike Waltz confirms that Trump's proposal to "take over Gaza" *is* meant to pressure neighboring Arab nations to come up with their own solution. "It's going to bring the entire region to come with their own solutions."

May HH the late Agha Khan IV Rest in Peace. His was a distinguished and humanist reign. Wishing Prince Rahim and all Ismailis the best in their new chapter.
It was just announced that the late Aga Khan IV had designated and appointed his eldest son Prince Rahim as his successor - the new 50th Imam of the Ismailis and the Aga Khan V.

Its always worth listen being to my friend Ambassador @ErdemOzanTR
We are approaching another Balfour moment that may prove even worse than the last. The chances of successfully completing the ceasefire deal in Gaza are already minimal. Trump’s plan to “overtake” the Gaza Strip and forcibly relocate Palestinians to Jordan and Egypt—despite the outright rejection of both countries—will undermine ongoing efforts to end the war. The debate surrounding Palestine has reached extreme positions. Unless political discussions are brought back to the center, the worst may still lie ahead for the Middle East. A complete disregard for human lives and international law sets a dangerous precedent for the future on a global scale. I stand with the voices of the people of Palestine, Jordan, and Egypt in rejecting this further invasion and deprivation.

Useful thread from my friend @dstroul
Thoughts on #Trump #gazariveria and US boots on the ground bombshells. Gaza might be the most complex post-conflict environment in modern history because of the concentration of destruction and closed borders. Rebuilding while protecting civilians was always going to be incredibly difficult. Last night only makes it more so. Trump's Gaza plan for 'Riviera of the Middle East' triggers international condemnation 🧵
