@FFmpeg The obvious caveat is that training for new instruction sets / extensions still requires people + you can't trust the output if you don't vet it and do serious amounts of testing. So I don't see it taking jobs for sure, but such a tool existing is probably very likely.

@koenjideck The alternative is to retarget offline, but the other engine needs animation data for simulation. So you'd have duplicate animations instead of models, and will need to do a lot more work to keep things in sync. So this is simpler, and duplicates the amount of assets possible.

@shankS2137 @__Zill4__ @Heaney555 Most can't afford the cost of good support from Epic anyway. Then there's the issue tracker, where many things are Won't Fix, and the forums, with no staff. Wiki + Issue Tracker + Discord would be just as good for 99% of users. The biggest issue is the lack of console support.

@iquilezles @Jonathan_Blow Fair enough! I knew abs is cheap but I didn't realize it was *that* cheap 😄

@typesfaster @SimplyDionysus It can be horrendous. I was trapped in a cab for hours once. The only other place I've experienced that is LA. I suppose NYC has the potential to be that way as well, but you aren't stuck on a freeway most of the time, I guess. Really don't envy people who drive in all three.

@iquilezles @Jonathan_Blow This is a bit less accurate than the trig version, using v*sqrt(1.7) is closer (happy if someone can explain why). You can also do dot(v,v)>1.0 though I'm not sure if it's cheaper. 🙂

@Taylor1989folk @n1kolax @HugoValters @9to5mac @ChanceHMiller It's impressive tech, but a commercial flop. It's been discontinued and sold poorly despite initial hype. Meanwhile the quest sells well, and punches above its weight. I think their criticism is totally warranted given these facts. The fact you see this as "negativity" is weird.

@marshallcarrig3 @LordInquisitor_ @AstroYogi101 Highlighting your ability to research I see – that's their maximum distance in km, not miles. Also the issue with buoys is the curvature of the earth and the ocean. The atmosphere and space are pretty empty by comparison. Satellites also use solar power btw.

@WeezSays @thicc_stick_boi Obviously they weren't as commonplace as home consoles – but each of those machines had large markets based around them, had countless follow up machines, and birthed series that still exist. PC is not only relevant since the 90s or 00s.

@RubyenMcC @Wario64 I don't have a problem with generative AI tbh. AI is cool, and I like a bit of upscaling & DLAA. Not a fan of frame gen and use of AI to create detail that doesn't exist. Intent is lost and it's not necessarily consistent over time. It will always have artifacts. Etc etc.

@RubyenMcC @Wario64 Oh yeah, that much I agree with. They know AI is the money maker. Any gains there are going to translate into millions of sales to data centers. Consumers are unaware that stuff like frame gen hurts quality and hallucinates data where there is none. FPS goes up. Good enough.

@RubyenMcC @Wario64 Personally think I'll stick with my 3080 for a while longer. This generation isn't much to write home about and it doesn't feel like they've really pushed the envelope. They dumped money into improving AI compute and not much else.

@Xperialihe @JPB_33 @Wario64 Well yeah, but it's trying to be a higher quality AA solution for games that don't support hardware AA. It's meant to fill in the gap for those who want high quality pixels, instead of TAA smear or DLSS hallucinations.

@KiPos_info @redneckleeusmc @Avamander @never_unsealed @chippyy1337 @an0n_r0 So as I see it there's no winning here without opening up risk to someone. Whether it's yourself or your customers in the event your certs leak / get abused. So imo EDR definitely shouldn't block any and every piece of unsigned code – it will push people to do stupid things.
