Happy National School Counseling Week! The Trident Regional Workforce Area hosted its first official School Counselor Day in partnership with NUCOR Steel Berkeley! Patricia Ferguson, Regional Workforce Advisor, and representatives from DEW, Trident Technical College, and NUCOR Steel Berkeley joined together to acknowledge the Trident Area school counselors. In addition to receiving additional resources to support their work, the counselors received recognition for their commitment to student success. Groundhogs aren’t the only ones able to see their shadow today! Held annually on February 2, Groundhog Job Shadow Day encourages people to shadow, or follow, career professionals in their workplace to gain firsthand experience and knowledge of that professional’s daily tasks, job responsibilities, and work environment. Job shadowing is a valuable type of on-the-job training that gives students the opportunity to ask questions, network with other colleagues and professionals, and decide whether a career is best suited to them. There are several ways to find job shadowing opportunities, like visiting an SC Works center or to get started and have a specialist gather options for you! You can also review opportunities on ask friends and family, look on social media, talk to your school’s career center, or contact a business directly!

SC Works Greater Upstate partnered with the City of Spartanburg Parks, Recreation, and Special Events Department to host its first multi-employer hiring event of 2025! The Spartanburg Job Fair brought together almost 30 employers and five community resource organizations. Over 420 jobseekers attended today’s event at the Dr. T.K. Gregg Community Center, making Spartanburg’s first job fair of the year a great success.

Earlier this week, @SCDEWinfo, @SCDOTPress, and @SCTechSystem had the opportunity to brief Dr. Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of @BMW AG, about workforce, training, and transportation in South Carolina during a meeting with the @SCcommerce. Workforce development begins in our schools, which BMW’s Spartanburg plant knows firsthand through its apprenticeship program and outstanding work with students, as recognized when it won the 2024 South Carolina Workforce Champion Award!
