We will release the unfinished build, which has all levels and most bosses implemented. Please do not ask for a release date. Thank you for your support! 💖
Gonna bring this up now because we're relevant again i guess, but the game ceased all development back in February. There were behind the scenes issues that demotivated everyone involved, so we all decided it was best to just release what we have eventually, when we're ready.
We're proud to announce the full game is coming out early on July 1st! Mark your calendars, take the day off work, tell Mom you wanna skip your Science exam. Actually, maybe don't do that one. See ya then!
The trailer revealing our next game will be on
@JustStarDrop
's YouTube channel at midnight on Monday 8/14.
You can watch it early on
@KazeEmanuar
's channel during this year's F3 presentation, which will be at some point the day before.
See you then! 💫
Q&A time!
Ask us any question about our upcoming game Sonic and the Moon Facility, or even our previous game, Fallen Star. We'll try to answer as much as we can! StarDrop will be away for a little bit, so some questions that I can't answer will be saved for a little bit later.
1.0.1 is now available! Changes include difficulty balancing (specifically with special stages), some bugfixes, as well as small level design tweaks. You can read the specifics of the patch in the changelog that comes with the download:
Some footage of the second zone's boss that I lovingly just call "Train Boss", it used to be quite the annoying boss in the demo with its weird movement patterns so I tried fixing it the best I could. It even has a unique music track!
We've all moved on to original projects, which we will hopefully be able to share soon. The spark just wasn't in it with this game after everything fell through, but that's okay. We're still immensely happy with what we did end up making, and we learned a lot from it.
Hey all, quick reminder here that fangames are for fun. They're passion projects, not a job, and they're made from love and not spite.
We should strive for a better community. I've been seeing a lot more fangane-oriented drama over the past year and it's very disappointing...
Looks like there was an exporting issue with the trailer, it rendered kinda bright compared to how it actually looks for some reason. The right is the trailer while the left is what it actually looks like. Small difference but unfortunately screwed up a lot of the brights :(
this isn't a dig at anyone, just a general reminder. fan content was walled off behind payment more than once in these past few years, and it should not happen at all.
We're working on it, right is WIP and feedback would be appreciated (very much subject to change)
We're not going to change the entire style of the game but the first few zones do have a bit of a contrast issue ATM
@SATFSDev
honestly I think y'all should tone down the overly bright overly blue aesthetic
I tried virtual-consling a screenshot but it isn't the best example
I at least want Sonic and/or the enemies to be readable even if you're squinting.
While we cannot use the new soundtrack Hollie made for the upcoming release of Fallen Star, she's been working really hard to remake the soundtrack with the same sound chip from the Sega Genesis and her digital audio tape collection. Incredible! Listen here:
Here's a personal favorite from the soundtrack, Tropical Tracks Act 1! I wanted to keep up the trend of second zones in Sonic games having badass music. - Hollie
"Wow it's so good great job Hollie" - Hans Zimmer
"im kanye west" - Kanye West
We will be submitting the finished game to
@SAGExpo
, and there's more news to come on the release in the next week. We are working very hard to get this game in your hands ASAP!
Alright, time to air out all the dirty laundry. Here's a bunch of dev and unused stuff that didn't make it to the gallery or otherwise. 🧵
First, the early character select screen.
Thank you so much for everyone who has played the game and gave feedback in the past few hours! The response has been overwhelmingly positive and both of us are just in awe at how awesome you guys are. That being said, we've picked up a fair bit of criticism as well.
The bulk of soundtrack is now coming to Spotify and other music streaming services! It's going to be de-Sonicified and will consist of all level and boss themes. You should see it on there in the next few days! :)
FAQ:
Q-Is this a sequel to Sonic and the Fallen Star?
A-It's just the next game by StarDrop. It'll be more similar to Fallen Star than anything else, but the story won't be a direct sequel.
Q-Android port?
A-Due to Clickteam's shoddy exporter, sadly no.
i've seen a few "oh so that's why bickuribox uploaded that video" tweets but nah, we don't have contact with him and didn't plan anything out. the video being uploaded was just the catalyst for us finally going "okay we HAVE to announce this publicly at this point"
The game is playable from start to finish, but it's missing a lot of features and polish. Obviously we don't want release it in the state that it's in right now, but we're all busy so there's no real estimated date as to when the build comes out. Please lower your expectations.
Our 2D cutscenes are an undertaking for just one man, so
@Vgf_88
is now helping color them to speed up the process. We're working on fine-tuning a new coloring style for him to use and feedback would be appreciated!
Left is the trailer and right is Vgf's style test
What we do release, whenever that happens, is not going to be the original vision of the game. The story is probably going to be in a Google Doc or something, and there's a LOT of content beyond the story that never got to be added. We're fine with this tho
It's Friday, which means it's time to share another track! This is for the Metal Sonic fight in Gusty Greenhouse Act 2 (Originally titled "Greens Garden" in the demo).
also the new Drake album sucks
Carnival Crater was the last zone in the demo, it now has a couple of art improvements and the music goes really hard too.
(also sorry for the slowdown in some parts of the video, thats because of my recording software, I love having a potato pc! -StarDrop)
If you're disappointed by the discontinuation or just looking for a good time, you should check out another colorful fangame that follows the naming scheme "__ & the __ Star". It's super impressive!
The game will drop at 11am CST tomorrow, aka approximately 14 hours from now. Do the timers on microwave ovens go that long? The louder the beep, the better.
One more quick clarification: the first draft of the level design was finished before the game was canned. That's what I said the game was playable from start to finish. Gameplay-wise, there's still stuff missing, but the core game was basically done.
Yes, Metal will come back. The Fallen Star fight was a bit lame, but I think his role(s) in this game will satisfy all the metal heads out there. We'll do a story trailer down the line so people know what to expect, but for now that's all I'll say on the plot.
@SATFSDev
first thing that caught my eye was, would Metal Sonic come back? the Pfp got me really curious and if he does, is he going to have a more prominent role 👁️
also said bc this shot got me curious🫣;
There will not be a level called Monkey Mountain. There never was a level called Monkey Mountain. The game never has and never will contain a level called Monkey Mountain.
Also, really appreciate how kind and understanding all the responses have been. There was a lot of anxiety in announcing this stuff but it's been made a lot easier thanks to all the nice replies. Thank you all
Examples of stuff that wasn't done were boss revisions, some bosses are missing entirely, most special stages weren't done, there were a couple of game features we were considering adding, etc etc. I'm also not sure if all of the collectibles were placed yet
A small FAQ:
Q-Are you doing a mobile port?; A-Nah, mobile exporter costs money and kinda sucks to use anyways.
Q-Mac/Linux port?; A-Most likely not, there's no reliable way to test it.
Q-Remappable controls?; A-Unfortunately... no. They're extremely tedious to implement, srry.
Balancing the special stages, ironing out any bugs, and other common critiques we have received are being addressed as well. There will be a big patch soon. Ideally this will be the only patch before SAGE, so it may be a while while we're still collecting all of the critiques.
