Our special edition GlampOut Gala at the historic Claremont Hotel brought together an incredible community of nature champions, volunteers, celebrities, and advocates, all under one roof for a record-breaking evening of support for Outdoor Afro’s mission spanning 15 years! 🌿💚 My deepest thanks to our amazing Outdoor Afro staff, board of directors, volunteers, event producers, auctioneer Michael Tate, and fab host Dave Clark. You all showed what true hospitality is all about—making everyone feel welcome, appreciated, and part of something truly meaningful. Hospitality is at the heart of Outdoor Afro, and you all brought it to life! A heartfelt thank you to our congressional and senate leaders, including Rep. Mike Thompson, Rep. Barbara Lee, Sen. Angus King, Sen. Alex Padilla, Sen. Martin Heinrich, and Sen. John Hickenlooper, for recognizing Outdoor Afro’s 15th Anniversary with resolutions at our nation’s capitol. Your support means the world to us! And the surprise of the night? Recognition from the City of @Oakland Mayor’s office for both Outdoor Afro and myself—a hometown honor that brought tears to my eyes! My sister Delane and brother and law Jerry lost their home in the Oakland fire yesterday… From my sister Delane Sims @DelaneSims : “I want to thank everyone for your incredible generosity and support. The outpouring of concern has been overwhelming and has truly touched our hearts and lifted our spirits during this critical time in our lives. Most importantly, we are safe, and we are now working to figure out our next steps. I cannot express enough how grateful we are for your prayers, enthusiasm, offerings, and all the many ways you’ve reached out to help us. It’s a blessing and a privilege to feel cared for by so many!” Know it was also a blessing to salvage some important things such as this box of family photos, and important documents, thanks to Oakland Firefighters @OaklandFireCA , and their stellar, caring leadership — but most important, lives were saved!
