Lies hurt everyone. Trust is so hard to earn. I woke up to a tweet from Fred Nettles yesterday claiming that after an experience in Oxford, Mississippi recently he was lucky to have “made it out alive.” 1/6
I love Mississippi. I want my children to always be proud that they are from Mississippi. In a time when unity is hard to come by...this is simple. Take down the current flag. Proud of our leaders with courage who are leading the way.

In this current climate it is so disappointing that someone would promote false information for attention. If we are in the wrong, we own it. I will not stand for an accusation like this to be made falsely about one of the finest police departments in the nation.

Just spoke with the Kroger Mgr. He passed along that beginning Monday their new store hours will be 7am - 9pm with SENIOR CITIZEN HOUR from 7 am - 8 am for those 55 and up. I won’t tell you how I cringed to learn he considered 55 to be a Senior Citizen!I’m goin to lay down now.
We began plowing roads Day 1. We pretreated the roads with salt brine and rocks. Imagine if you were thankful for the people who’ve worked in this cold about 18 hours a day for the past six days. Or even did something to help the community instead of bitching on social media🤷🏼♀️
When the
@WaffleHouse
VP of Real Estate comes to visit, you wear your hat even if it doesn’t match! Thank you, Jeff Cole, for the fun conversation. Hoping to hear you found the perfect spot!

I’m ordering our capes now!
The voters of Mississippi have confirmed that we are ready to move forward! I am thrilled that we will have the opportunity to fly a flag we can all be proud of.

Oxford is a community that struggles together. Many have asked for an update on the female student, Blanche Williamson, who was injured Sunday morning in the tragedy behind City Hall. With Blanche’s parents permission, I am relieved to report that she is stable and improving.1/2
We know that Covid is still around BUT we are celebrating NO COVID patients at Baptist Memorial Hospital - North Mississippi today for the first time since March 18, 2020. Thank you, Oxford, for being responsible…for sticking with us for two long years…for loving your neighbor.
This is an historic day for the great State of Mississippi. It is our opportunity to tell the world we are moving forward and are stronger together! It’s always the right time to do the right thing!

The City of Oxford mourns alongside those of you in Starkville. Prayers for peace and comfort for the family of Lake Little and for all of those who loved her. May God wrap His loving arms around you.
Is there a more beautiful place to be during the holidays? There are so many reasons to plan a trip to Oxford. What are you waiting for?

I wore my

official name tag today to visit with Ken Williams with Waffle House Real Estate. I told him we want a REALLY cool store here because we had to wait so long!

Well this makes my day❤️ I’m so glad you can’t see my gray roots. I’m really good with a blow dryer and curling iron. 😜 There are plenty of reasons to throw darts at me I’m sure, but being an “elitist” is not one of them.
#goodhustle
I find is odd that
@RobynTannehill
has perfect hair in all of her press conferences, I’m not allowed to get a hair cut for weeks and some how she looks like she just left the salon, seems like the elite get to use non essential business.
If you see any
@cityofoxford
employees today, give them a wave and a thank you. It has been a long night and they are still cleaning up and restoring power this morning.

. I invited Fred to view the video with me to refresh his memory and he declined. I offered Fred the opportunity to visit with me and Chief McCutchen. I wanted to give him the opportunity to make this right. He again declined. 5/6
I cannot let the sun go down on this terrible day without making a statement regarding the tragic event that happened in our community early this morning.
Fred states that “one officer kept insulting him and trying to get him to fight.” The video does not support this claim.I don’t believe I have ever seen a more congenial traffic stop or discussion between a compassionate cop and a respectful citizen. 4/6
Oxford is OPEN‼️ Come support these businesses that have been closed. Remember the staff hasn’t gotten tips in a week, as well. Please post restaurants and businesses that are open below. Let’s love on our small businesses ❤️

The body cameras were there. The dash cam videos were there. The relationship based policing we aim for is exactly what was present in this stop. Fred was pulled over because his tag was expired. He also had an expired license and no proof of insurance. 3/6
It actually IS the law y’all. City of Oxford’s Board has the power and responsibility to pass resolutions/ordinances/laws as needed. It does not require approval of the Legislature or Governor. However, in this case, it was implemented by Executive Order of the Governor.

Two years ago today..I’m not sure any video has brought us more laughs. Or cost us more money!!

There is currently NO CURFEW in Oxford, Mississippi. We believe spreading out trips over all hours of the day and night keeps crowds smaller. Things change daily but as of now there is no curfew.

On August 14, 2016, the Oxford community changed forever.Seems like yesterday but it has been 6 years since we lost these precious people. Moving my kids into their dorms made me miss these sweet friends even more. They would be so proud of how their kids are thriving❤️

Please stop whatever you are doing and pray for David Johnson...a gifted writer, kind, compassionate man, father and husband...who is struggling from COVID-19.

The Oxford Eagle staff sends our thoughts and prayers to David Johnson and his family, and all who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, during this trying time in our nation.
Oh how I love doing the Mayor for the Day Program! D.J. Stribling led the City of Oxford well today and made me smile all day. Just look at this sharp dressed young man. No doubt he will change the world!
Let me warn you that I am most definitely going to be guilty of over posting for the next 24 hours BUT I am so proud of my Oxford Chargers! Headed to Hattiesburg to get that WN!💙💛 I have NO idea who the crazy lady yelling is 😜
I hope
@OxfordPolice
used their fear tactics to tell you how critical it is to self distance and not have parties. You are correct that I talk often about Oxford being a family. Families take care of each other and right now that looks like staying at home and away from groups.
I appreciate the partnership of Chancellor Boyce. I’m not so sure the “4 generations who came before you” will be impressed with your tweet. We’re not friends and our idea of the perfect day in Oxford couldn’t be further apart. See thread👇🏼

You know what’s NOT cool? THIS. If this young man had any idea the trouble and care that went into that flower bed.... I’d like to give him a lesson on that so if you recognize him...I’m all ears.
Just CANNOT stop smiling thinking about the PERFECT day we had in

I immediately sent him a DM. I have enjoyed getting to know Fred over the past year and was concerned to hear this accusation. I had OPD pull the videos from the ”recent” traffic stop which we found occurred in May 2019. 2/6
When sewer lines break on an icy Sunday afternoon, what does the City of Oxford do?!? They show up and serve. Thank a city worker if you see one. It’s mighty cold out there. They’ve been working all day and will be working all night to keep us safe and cared for ❤️
The MS Senate and House of Reps passed legislation today providing $1️⃣6️⃣0️⃣Million to allow for the 4laning of Hwy 7 South from the Hwy 7/Belk Int to the Hwy 7/9 roundabout. It took 25 years but WE DID IT! City-County-State-Univ worked together to make this a reality!
Last night at approximately 1 AM, two females vandalize the globe fountain at the newly dedicated Pocket Park next to Oxford Oxford City Hall. They were with a larger group of individuals damages are going to be inexcess of $5000, which is a felony.
City of Oxford employees from numerous departments who aren’t coming in to the office during this crisis found a way to practice social distancing while serving the community by picking up litter. They filled 97 bags - 41 bags on Hwy 7 and 56 bags on Hwy 6.

I’m so saddened to hear about the passing of my friend Johnny Morgan. He loved Oxford and was incredibly generous. He never wanted credit-only to leave it better. You can thank him every time you drive by the pocket park on North Lamar and see

Walking out of Marshall’s with my daughter and a wise woman walked up to me and said, “The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on. Don’t let those barking dogs stop your caravan. You’re doing great.” Unexpected tears.
