Heart goes out to the Dodge City community and the family of Damian Mendez, who passed away late last night following a heat stroke. He just completed an exceptional high school wrestling career at Dodge City and was poised for tremendous things in the future. A terrible loss.

Some personal news I'd like to share: Today is my last day at The Capital-Journal. On Monday I'll begin a new chapter as a sports reporter for The Hays Daily News. The C-J is the only job I've ever known and I'll cherish the friendships and experience I've gained there.

Congrats to my dad on one helluva run at The Capital-Journal. No one has a stronger passion for high school and local sports. He's not through telling stories yet.
I've never believed in long goodbyes or farewell tours, but I do want to thank all of you that have made my past 31 years at The Cap-Journal a pure joy. I'm excited about my future in local sports (more news to come), but today is about saying goodbye to an old, cherished friend.
