Perhaps college wrestling can use this extreme scenario as a learning opportunity? There needs to be more value added to the regular season. The entire year should be judged and rewarded based on a full body of work, not a single event alone. It’s an outdated model.

How would we feel about “ranking series” events for NCAA wrestling? Scrap the current allocation system. Make it simple. The more you wrestle, and the more you win, the more points you get toward final rankings. You don’t compete then you don’t get points to qualify for NCAAs.
