“simone is past her prime” nah. she improved her biles on both floor and beam this past year and added the YDP. getting the twisties takes away none of that
“UCLA athletes should switch schools” or “UCLA should just scratch every event”
The UCLA gymnasts should not have to switch schools or not sacrifice what they worked so hard to do. Pressure should be put in the administration to change, not the athletes to escape.
Suni going 4/4 and fighting to stay on every event immediately after watching her best friend go down, she is such an inspiration, and her beam and floor in particular were mesmerizing to watch.
I love how we’ve been so harsh on jade’s dance elements for so long and then she does the cuntiest switch full to gorgina popa to shut everyone the fuck up
jade had to deal with the most whack qualification process to the olympics and couldnt go to 2018 worlds then competed in the aa in tokyo and won a floor gold medal after the most tragic vault final and is now owning ncaa gymnastics after learning how to ride a bike last week wow
jordan chiles went from failing to be selected for international meets from 2017-2019 due to lack of consistency, to going 24/24 in 2021 with massive upgrades on 3 events and i will not stop talking about this
We actually need more people like Olivia Karas discussing deductions that aren’t taken because calling out overscoring is not criticizing the gymnast, it is calling for making the quickly sport more objective and legitimate. When a 10 has an obvious mistake people have questions.
I am gutted for Trinity Thomas, but really, doing everything she did including a DTY, chuso, beam connections, scoring 14+ on bars twice is really remarkable for her comeback after an injury her final NCAA season and four years away from elite. She should be so proud of herself.
round of applause for sara t who took it upon herself to try to educate alexis so the poc on the team didn’t have to put themselves through the emotional labor of doing so
I think it’s important to remember that alternates are not part of the olympic village, and that alternates can’t be subbed in within a certain time of quals. Having a 1 event gymnast incapable of competing the other three is a huge risk. 2012 mck and 2016 Madko capable of all 4.
i still can’t believe simone went up on beam after everything that happened in tokyo and won a bronze medal. the mental strength to know you get one chance on beam of all events to win an individual medal and she did that. one of my fav moments from the olympics for sure
Stephen was sick. Then his travel got delayed. He missed podium training. Then he nailed his quals routine. Then he won the PH final, at his first world championships. What an inspiring story for the USA’s first Pommel Horse world’s gold medal! Stephen killed it
rent was due in 1 minute 30 seconds, a bowtique quota needed to be met, sea levels were rising, ou fans were booing, wonginators were praying. miss leanne bowtique mother wong not only inspired the youth, but ended climate change with this routine.
rebe winning by 1.5 with a subpar bars for her that can score a full point higher, this was a simone-like dominating performance and it’s time to acknowledge that barring injury she truly can dominate this whole quad.
suni went from starfish nabs to olympic all around to champion to dwts to one of the top all arounders in ncaa when none of us thought she would be vaulting and honestly i love that for her
If Leanne, Jordan, and jade all made 2022 worlds it would be such a slay and I wouldn’t be surprised considering the difficulty they all displayed in ncaa
Natalie is incredible. 3 majors and being at the top of her sport as an undergrad and now continuing gymnastics in what must be a demanding masters program, honestly all the gymnasts who are continuing while getting their masters are so inspiring
Obviously Janelle, the rest of the ucla coaching staff, and the gymnasts are doing fantastic and getting all the credit they deserve, but last year's ucla seniors + marz deserve more credit for publicly speaking out against injustice to create a space where change could be made.
Jordan Chiles anchoring team USA, hitting 4/4 in team finals, and having the 2nd highest AA of the day is SUCH an achievement she should be so proud of herself!
After everything Simone has been through it makes me so happy to see her happy and living her life. I love that so many gymnasts are commenting such positive things on her engagement post and she’s liking them! She’s such an incredible role model.
Suni being adamant about going to college like yes make your own life decisions and embrace the college experience and do what you want. and get that coin with NIL. Something about winning AA gold and going straight to college is a boss move to me
Was just thinking that Jordan has been on the US national team since 2013, missed every worlds, then made the olympic team and won silver, went on tour, competed a full NCAA season, then returned to elite. That has got to be so inspirational for so many gymnasts.
Thinking about Laurie Hernandez beam 2016 trials day 2 when all the gymnasts cheered her on and the entire stadium was chanting her name… I hope they do the same for Suni’s bars day 2
scoring an 11 on the event you knew you’d be competing in team finals but hitting the events you were put in last minute is reserved for mothers only (jo, leanne)
Hi gymtwit friends, i’m excited to announce that in one week i’ll be graduating with a B.S. in physiological science! My current post-grad plans include taking 2 gap years to do research in an Opioid addiction lab, gain clinical experience, and study for the MCAT.
normalize gymnasts doing what kenzo is doing. if you don’t want to compete, don’t compete! that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy doing gymnastics! we are lucky we get to be blessed by his random training videos and he doesn’t need to win world medals for his gymnastics to have value
Shilese being 14/15 this worlds with the one fall being totally random on the event she was least likely to medal, she proved how reliable she is when the pressure is on
bitches lining up for ucla vs arizona gymnastics meet an hour before doors open at pauley to get a front row view of ana padurariu’s sheep jump. im bitches
FYI Jarmond was at the meet and was making sure the student section didn't have signs and weren't writing messages on the back of the posters that were handed out to students
bc she is doing some of the hardest tumbling passes as a first year senior at an international comp months before worlds and it’s okay if it’s not perfect?
I’m extremely sad for simone. At the same time, if younger me had seen the example Simone set in speaking up for herself, i think younger me would’ve spoken up before i was completely broken mentally as a gymnast. This is going to create positive change for generations.
ok it’s time for a hot take: gym fans will be happy that different body types are becoming more represented in gymnastics but when a gymnast has calves and hamstrings it’s all ‘they have bent legs’ or ‘they didn’t 180’ when all it is having calves and hamstrings
This year’s group of USA WAG just seems extra special to me. There are so many amazing storylines in terms of heartbreak and comeback, bringing the NCAA pep talks and support, newfound longevity among gymnasts, olympic year upgrades, new seniors making it near the podium.
no bc kj johnson is such a badass imagine having powerlifting as a hobby alongside gymnastics no wonder her fty shoots through the roof and her landings are so good
jade carey really girlbossed her way to a laid out triple double, 2 nearly stuck amanars, a 6.0 bars set, an olympic all around final, olympic floor champion, gold over america tour, and oregon state all this year
