Just got an email stating there’s evidently a national shortage of blood.
Seems like

would be a great time to drop the homophobic practice of denying blood donations from MSM, but what do I know, I’m just a doctor 🤷🏻♂️
Going home for Christmas, I just found my physical chemistry 1-page “cheat sheet” we could bring into our final exam. I can’t believe I used to understand this?!
I would like to admit, as a nephrologist, that I had my annual dose of ibuprofen today (after downing a glass of water) but dang did it make my headache better within 15 minutes
I just remembered that as an intern I clinically diagnosed G6PD deficiency by asking about fava beans at 2 AM and I’m pretty sure my medical career peaked in that moment
Was called a f*ggot walking home tonight after the fireworks (ostensibly for wearing pink shorts but unclear as I certainly did not stop to clarify) so glad to know homophobia is alive and well in middle America! 🇺🇸
I’m excited to announce that I have accepted a position as an Assistant Professor in Pediatric Nephrology at Lurie Children’s Hospital/Northwestern University in Chicago come this summer!
I’m immensely grateful to
@CincyPedNeph
and
@CincyClinPharm
for the excellent fellowship
So, you know, thanks for trusting me to order blood transfusions overnight on 28 hour sleepless class but not be responsible enough with my sexual health to donate blood safely
If the rule were “abstinence for 3 months” then fine. But you’d be hard pressed to tell me that a gay man religiously taking PrEP with q3mo HIV testing is *so much* higher risk than average person who has sex not otherwise specified that you can’t accept their blood 🙄
Happy

month! If you’d told me 11 years ago as a sophomore in college that I would be confidently “out” in medicine, I don’t think I would have believed you. But meanwhile — I have been fortunate to have nothing but support and understanding at every step of the way —
I just found out my 3 yo nephew calls the front desk at their apartment complex to say goodnight to whomever answers.
And my heart grew three sizes larger 🥰
Was getting drinks with a couple of my wonderful senior residents (who happen to be ladies), and a man sees me with them and remakes “you’re a lucky guy!”
Disarmingly, I reply: “Thank you! Also, I’m gay as hell. 🌈”
Proud to have passed an exam to be a certified bilingual provider for mis pacientes hispanohablantes. Now if anyone wants to teach me the remaining 6500+ languages still in active use worldwide I’m missing…
Me to my 4 yo nephew who’s pointing to different body parts:
“So which organ helps you breathe?”
“The lungs.”
“What about pump the blood?”
“The heart.”
“What cleans the blood?”
“The oxygen?”
And thus began his first lesson in renal physiology
At the request of a follower…
…January to December 2023 fitness journey!
Shout out to working with
@DeanTTraining
for the better part of the year for feedback and accountability
Finished my first 3 days of fellowship and have already ordered hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis + seen so many children whose lives have been changed forever by transplants. I picked the coolest specialty ever! 🥰
In retrospect is anyone else bothered that “perfect attendance” was ever an award?
Like some kids get appendicitis! Or pneumonia…or need a mental health week because their parents pass away…
?!
My father (
@hphambrickmd
) is a general pediatrician. We are both on call this weekend. He just told me he was going to check potassiums in all the babies in the nursery via heelstick and call me if they were elevated. If that’s not trolling…😆
Sharing with gratitude, excitement, and astonishment 🤯:
I was just awarded an Early Career Award from the Thrasher Research Fund for my work to understand the pharmacokinetics of antibiotics in kids on CRRT.
Grateful does not even begin to describe!
Thumbs up for the afterglow of Taylor and the first day of service as a third year fellow …!!
PGY-6 (AKA my 10th year of medical training), here goes ✨
A plant seems somehow the most appropriate birthday gift to get from a family as a pediatrician. Here’s to continued growth and flourishing for all children 🌱🌳
@viewtiful_joe__
While as a chemistry major I loved all of my chem classes I agree that the complexity of o-chem (multi-step syntheses? stoichiometry??) has largely not been applicable over the next 8 years of med school, residency, and fellowship...more intense stats and epi would be better
Had a great experience presenting my research regarding improving accuracy of drug dosing for kids receiving continuous dialysis at the NIH T32 annual clinical pharmacology trainee meeting
Thanks
@slgold777
and
@STangGirdwood
for the excellent mentorship and the opportunity
My program director declared me the “nerdiest person in the room” during a divisional meeting today so I’ll be embracing that as a compliment for years to come 😇🤓
I don’t have words to express how humbled and honored I am to have received the Frederick H. Lovejoy, Jr. Outstanding Senior Resident Award from
@TheBCRP
at my residency graduation today, and to be with my family to join in the virtual celebration.
It’s now official, as of today I have two more letters after my name!
Grateful for the opportunity to get a Masters in clinical and translational research from
@uofcincy
to learn about biostatistics and study design to inform my research as a pediatric nephrologist. 👨🏻🎓🎓
Giving my first ever oral presentation at a research conference tonight at the 2024
#AKICRRT
meeting, wish me luck!
And if you’re in San Diego, come learn about cefepime PK in AKI :)
does it bother anyone else that it's "gentamicin" but then "tobramycin" and "azithromycin" and "clarithromycin" and "erythromycin"
like why is gent too fancy for the y? And why do aminoglycosides and macrolides have the same ending???
