To be clear about my bill that failed, 52 Democrats voted to FUND the police, 51 Republicans voted to DEFUND the police! 2 Macomb reps refused to vote to bring hundreds of thousands of dollars to our communities!
A leadership-backed bill to create a new Public Safety and Violence Prevention Fund to financially support public safety efforts just failed in the Michigan House.
Leadership couldn't get more than 52 votes.

Yesterday, I spoke in support of House Bill 4020 and Senate Bill 12 in the House Education Committee. This bill would repeal the harmful retention aspect of the third grade reading law and maintain the current supports already in place.

When I introduced the repeal to the punitive "third grade reading" law, this was part of my argument. Use the money it would cost to hold students back and instead be proactive, not reactive. Great news! And we will get a lot more done this year!

Unfortunately today I found out the my bill (HB 4628) will not be taken up in the Senate Transportation committee this legislative session because they have adjourned until 2021. This essentially kills the bill.

This bill would have removed points for certain minor traffic violation off of your driving record after 4 years, instead of the current 7 years, saving you money on your car insurance. This bi-partisan bill passed the House (108-1) back on 10-10-2019.

I know it seems an impossible coincidence! In my junior year, my family hosted a foreign exchange student for a year, he was 7 foot tall at age 16. He went home to Italy and played pro ball and he was a vital player in winning silver at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Under my bill certain traffic violations would be removed by the Secretary of State from driving records after 3 years. Removal of minor violations, such as going 5 over the speed limit, would give some rate relief to drivers.

There were never given a committee hearing. The majority decides what gets a hearing. We had the same bills in 2019, also never got a hearing. These bills have been out there for years!
