Representing Texas’s 30th Congressional District. Chairwoman of

. Dean of the Texas Delegation. First Registered Nurse elected to Congress.
The law is clear: President Trump does NOT have legal authority to block grant Medicaid. This latest attack on the ACA will only result in lower quality of care for fewer people.

This is Sarah Weddington, Kay Bailey Hutchison, and I in the Texas House in 1973.
That same year, at 26 years old, Sarah went before the Supreme Court and successfully argued Roe v. Wade.
I am a native Texan — born and raised here, educated here, and in my 15th term representing TX-30. Not once have I heard anyone here use the reprehensible and insensitive “saying” that
@RepChipRoy
is referencing. Texans are better than that. Americans are better than that.
"There's old sayings in Texas about find all the rope in Texas and get a tall oak tree. You know, we take justice very seriously, & we ought to do that. Round up the bad guys." -- here's Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) glorifying lynchings during hearing on violence against Asian-Americans
In his prayer yesterday, Imam
@omarsuleiman504
, as he has time and again, used his voice to call for peace & justice — especially in times of struggle.
Our ocean sustains all life on Earth 🌎. This
#WorldOceanDay
, we remain committed to a more equitable & just ocean & Great Lakes science and conservation community. Together we can find Scientific Solutions to protect one of our world’s most precious resources: our ocean 🌊
While countries across the world were suffering from the COVID-19 pandemic, Taiwan effectively contained their spread to 1,100 cases and only 12 deaths. The United States—and the WHO as a whole—would benefit if we

at the next World Health Assembly.
Today marks the 80th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. More than 2,400 lives were lost, and our nation was forever changed.
Many heroes were made on that fateful day, but let me tell you the story of one you may not have heard of before—Doris Miller.
Passed! The Chips and Science Act is officially on its way to
@POTUS
's desk.
This is a win for science.
This is a win for our economy.
This is a win for America.
Honored to serve as Chair of the Science, Space, and Technology Committee for the
#116thCongress
. It’s time to
#StandUpForScience
again and address the important issues facing us today – including Climate Change.
Let’s get to work.
This morning, the U.S. Supreme Court is hearing arguments in two cases challenging the validity of Texas's anti-abortion law.
Let me be very clear: abortion should be accessible and affordable—in Texas and in every community across the country.
Congratulations to
@POTUS
and all parties involved for uniting behind this fair and historic agreement, which will keep North Texas railyards operating and our economy growing.
This verdict is not justice—it’s accountability. Justice is George Floyd still being alive today, raising his children and spending time with his family.
I hope that they can find peace knowing that his life inspired a generation, sparked a movement, and changed the world.
If our STEM workforce doesn’t match the diversity of our country, it’s our country that loses out. We need more
#WomenInScience
and that’s why I introduced the STEM Opportunities Act Last year – to make sure our country succeeds by promoting opportunity for women and minorities.
There aren’t nearly enough Black and Latina
#WomenInScience
- women are only 24% of the STEM workforce, Black women account for only 5.7% and Latinas for 2%. Let’s celebrate their accomplishments and push for more diversity and inclusion in
#STEM
.
Today, I am announcing my intention to support Articles of Impeachment once they are brought to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Read my full statement:
After last year’s terrible tragedy at the Tree of Life Synagogue, he led his Muslim congregation to spread messages of love for the Jewish community.
The message: “You are family.”
I’m proud of the STEM bills in the newly-passed
#CHIPSandScience
Act. This will change our workforce for the better. There is a bright future ahead for the American science and innovation enterprise when we build opportunities for ALL in STEM.
Sarah passed away last year, but I want to share some of her words that resonate stronger than ever before:
“It is unthinkable to allow complete strangers, whether individually or collectively as state legislators or others...to make such personal decisions for someone else."
Today, Senate Democrats vote to
#SaveTheInternet
. Proud to support similar
#NetNeutrality
legislation here in the House. The fight for a free and open internet continues.
Today, I had the pleasure of touring the Eddie Bernice Johnson Elementary School with
@dallasschools
Superintendent, Michael Hinojosa, and Principal, Umoja Turner. It was inspiring to meet with and hear from teachers who are excited about the upcoming school year.
My office is open to all Americans. Our military should be as well.
On
#TransVisibilityWeek
, we reject the bigotry and discrimination represented by the
#TransMilitaryBan
!
This is unconstitutional. Pres. Trump cannot take away
#BirthrightCitizenship
on his own.
But he can & will take away healthcare, Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security unless Democrats win back the majority.
Remember who is
#ForThePeople
when you vote.
“I thought that the right of a woman to make a decision about what she would do in a particular pregnancy would be accepted. That by this time…the controversy over abortion would have gradually faded away like the closing scenes of a movie and we could go on to other issues.”
My deepest condolences to my dear friend President
@iingwen
and to those affected by the tragic rail accident in Taiwan this morning. We stand with you,
@TECRO_USA
.
In response to a train derailment in Hualien, Taiwan, our emergency services have been fully mobilized to rescue & assist the passengers & railway staff affected. We will continue to do everything we can to ensure their safety in the wake of this heartbreaking incident.
Today, I stood alongside fellow women in the Capitol to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the House passing the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote. We must build on its legacy by ensuring women everywhere have the ability to achieve their full potential.
There have been more mass shootings in our country than days in 2022.
145 days, 213 mass shootings.
We cannot become numb to this.
We must
#EndGunViolence
, and we must do it now. Inaction is inexcusable.
In just a few minutes, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will be sworn in as the Supreme Court’s first Black female justice.
This is a historic moment for our country, more than 230 years in the making. You can watch the ceremony live here:
I am proud to announce that my virtual guest for
@POTUS
’s Joint Address this evening is
@dallasschools
Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa. Dr. Hinojosa has led the effort to help students in TX-30 recover from the “learning loss” as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Looking forward to joining
@POTUS
in Ohio this morning for the groundbreaking of
@Intel
's first new U.S. semiconductor manufacturing site in 40 years.
Today is a win for American workers, made possible by the CHIPS and Science Act.
Yesterday, I cast my last vote as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives on a government funding package that brings more than $27 million back to
#TX30
, provides record funding for childcare programs, and increases funding in health research.
I’m delighted to welcome the Members of the
@HouseScience
Committee for this Congress! Together, we’ll focus on the issues that matter and stand up for science!
We will not be intimidated by threats against the press or the leaders of our democracy. Americans will never succumb to fear. We will always rise above.
Thinking of George Floyd's family and all the other families who have buried their loved ones at the hands of police brutality - we are mourning and praying with you.
Voting Rights are Civil Rights and Civil Rights are Voting Rights. Our democracy only works when elections are free & fair and all eligible voters are able to cast a ballot.
#RestoreTheVote
Dr. Olivia Hooker's name may not be one that most people recognize, but her contributions will not be lost to history. We are grateful for the path she blazed for the brave African American servicewoman who followed. May she Rest In Peace.
This morning, the House begins our official investigation into what happened on January 6th.
I spoke
@AprilDRyan
about my experience on that day and what it meant for our democracy.
My office is monitoring the ongoing situation at Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville.
No one should ever fear for their lives in their places of worship. I am praying for the safety of those on the scene and I stand with the North Texas Jewish community.
DEVELOPING: A man has taken a rabbi, and possibly others, hostage at a synagogue near Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, 3 senior law enforcement officials say.
Strong democracies welcome those who criticize their policies. It is shameful that Mr. Netanyahu has chosen to ban two of my colleagues from visiting Israel and Palestine. The US has poured billions of taxpayer dollars into Israel. This action is an insult to the American people.
Oil and gas companies have the opportunity and responsibility to be a part of the solution to address the
#ClimateCrisis
. They must work to reduce large-scale methane emissions—and do it now.
I am so grateful to everyone who made this day happen. I’m honored that Eddie Bernice Johnson Union Station will be a place that connects people of all backgrounds and helps them along their way.
After what would've been her 96th birthday, we unveiled a statue in Dallas honoring the legacy of Rosa Parks. Today, she would be 106 years old. I remain committed to her cause: ensuring we live in a society that values all as equal.
@SecretaryPete
is right—Texas is a prime candidate for a high-speed rail system. Not only would it offer several economic and environmental benefits, it would also ease travel between the state's largest population centers.
This past weekend, I was honored to give the commencement speech at
@txwomans
College of Nursing.
This university has always held a special place in my heart, and I am grateful for the opportunity to share in the celebration of the Class of 2022.
As co-chair of the
#Lupus
Caucus, I’m proud that this FY2021 funding bill includes $8.5m for National Lupus Patient Registry at
@CDCgov
and $2m for
@MinorityHealth
Lupus Program. This is only the beginning, and we must fully fund these critical programs for the lupus community.
NEW: The House Appropriations Committee has approved its FY2021 Labor-HHS-Education funding bill, sending the legislation to the House for further consideration.
Read more about the bill:
I've served in Congress for nearly 30 years. Infrastructure has always been a distant goal—
@POTUS
is now making it a reality.
We’re done talking about infrastructure weeks. We’re going to have an infrastructure decade.
#SOTU
This morning, I welcomed
@SecGranholm
to North Texas to congratulate
@LennoxAir
on being the first manufacturer to produce a next-generation heat pump.
This new clean energy technology will save people money on their utility bills, create jobs, and combat the climate crisis.
It will take a team effort, in the truest sense of the word, to get North Texans the relief they need in the face of this crisis. It's reassuring to see that the
@dallasmavs
care about our well-being and success as much as we care about theirs.
Some (updated) positive news to start your Sunday, thanks to Mark Cuban, Cynt Marshall, Luka Doncic, Tim Hardaway Jr., Maxi Kleber and Dwight Powell.
They've donated $1.25 million to the Dallas Mayor’s fund and other local sources for winter storm relief:
The decision by Gov. Abbott to lift the statewide mask mandate is irresponsible, short-sighted, and directly opposed to the recommendations of medical professionals.
Our best chance to get through the pandemic is to listen to the science – and the science supports wearing masks.
This much is clear: because we experience higher teen pregnancy and maternal mortality rates, Black women will bear the brunt of abortion limits in Texas and across the country.
Nothing compels
@senjudiciary
to continue to so recklessly force Judge Kavanaugh's nomination forward. A third credible allegation only provides more credence to stop all proceedings and allow
@FBI
to investigate. Tomorrow's hearing must be postponed.
Judge Kavanaugh has neither the integrity nor the temperament to serve on
#SCOTUS
. The legitimacy of the court will rightly be questioned so long as he is seated on it. His confirmation is a dark day for our democracy.
Doris Miller should have received the Medal of Honor. He put his life on the line for a country that treated him like a second-class citizen. We can, and we must correct this injustice by awarding him the Medal of Honor posthumously.
"The most fundamental right in America is the right to vote—and to have it counted."
This is personal for Texans. As we speak, our sacred right to vote is under assault right here at home.
So let's pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, and let's do it now.
#SOTU
Shootings in places of worship are becoming too commonplace. People should not be afraid to gather and fellowship. I thank the parishioners who acted selflessly to save lives. Our hearts go out to the victims' families and members of the West Freeway Church of Christ.
Gun violence in the United States—and especially in Texas—is an epidemic. But instead of finding solutions to prevent gun-related deaths, Texas continues to implement policies that only worsen the crisis.
Proud to see
@POTUS
take executive action today.
The bipartisan
@HouseScience
bills included in
#AmericaCOMPETES
were built from the ground up with rigorous input from the scientific community. We've worked hard to ensure premiere science agencies like
@doescience
,
@NSF
, &
@NIST
are well-equipped to succeed in the 21st century.
