@EasternRedSkunk @ReReadingWolfe I keep thinking about this idea—and I should really go re-read what Wolfe said about Lamarck—but the more I learn about Christian mysticism the more plausible it becomes.

@b_dean_wilson Well there is a portal fantasy element but Able has visions of being in the hospital, fighting terrorists on a plane, etc. Also the whole weirdness of the Inn of Lost Loves. And Able is connected to the sea and it feeds his strength. There’s a lot going on as signaled by Parca.

The first restaurant in history opened in Paris in 1765. Until then travelers staying at an inn ate at the host’s table or had their meal sent up to their room. Until then, in French, the word "restaurant" meant "a hearty meal" In 1765 a man named Boulanger had the idea of serving guests food at small tables with a separate table for each party. He had a sign painted over his establishment saying: "Boulanger gives you divine restaurants" The rest was history.
