Can you guess what my favorite trick to train rats is? Lol and this video only contains clips of about half the rats I've taught it to 😅 If a rat stays with me for even a day I just can't help myself, I have to teach them to spin on cue! (Cut for twitters video length limit)

Very happy to say that Raisin had her first true basketball game with Tofu last night! Raisin has technically known basketball for months, but she struggled with consistently getting the ball into the hoop. So I'm very proud to see her get it down - go Raisin (and Tofu!)

Popcorn & Toast playing vs basketball! I'm really proud of Toast in particular for being able to hold her own - Popcorn can be very pushy with basketball so I wasn't sure how Toast would do given her initial struggle with it, but she rose to the challenge - go Toast & Popcorn!

Everyone please wish Butter, Toast, and Popcorn a very happy birthday! As of today Butter and Toast are now 2 years old (honestly I can barely believe it!), and Popcorn is now 1 year old! I'm happy to say all 3 girls are still very happy, active, and living their best lives!

This morning I found my sweet girl Olive in her forever sleep - I will miss this sweet girl so much 💔 Olive lived a good long life of over 3 years, and I am so dang grateful I was lucky enough to get to know and care for such an incredible rat! ❤️

Today I would like to introduce you to my 3 newest ratties, Potato (cream), French Fry (black), and Tater Tot (gray)!
These 3 girls are all seniors (1.5 years for both dwarfs and 2 years for Potato), and will be living out their "ratirement" with me!

More unposted photos - these are from just before Halloween, I had bought some rat sized sweaters off etsy hoping one fit Tofu. Well neither fit Tofu, but me and my mom laughed so hard during this shoot so it was worth it - and not to worry, the rats were compensated generously!

This weeks Raisin molt - this is my first truly solo shoot after my mom passed, and I was pretty nervous about how it would go. I feel like it went quite well though and Raisin was a great rat to start with since she's so sweet and willing to pose!

Tofu is learning to fetch from a drawer! I really like using this trick as a way to strengthen rats connections between the order of behaviors when it comes to certain tricks - go Tofu!

My dwarf rat Butter proving that dwarf rats can indeed pick up mini wiffle balls! Quite the exciting discovery for me since I use these balls for 90% of my rats item carrying tricks. I'm not quite sure if Butter will be able to use it for basketball, but I have high hopes!

Butter working on the fetching from a fridge! Some of my rats get a bit wary of the metal fridge at first - but not Butter! Butter really has no idea she's a tiny puffball lol, she always approaches everything with confidence. Anyways very happy to see her progress - go Butter!

So I was practicing some basketball with Butter last night, and for some reason that inspired me to look up clips of Butter learning basketball as a baby. And wow, I forgot just how tiny Butter was! Here she was 14/15 weeks and Egg looks giant in comparison!

I hate to say it, but Butter has developed a pituitary tumor. I took her to the vet today & she got a dex shot, plus got oral pred & a prescription for cabergoline, but we won't know if she's responding for a few days. I hope tomorrow will bring better news - get better Butter💔

And just like that, I’m back to 8 rats :(
After a long life of nearly 34 months, and after over 10.5 months battling a brain tumor (pituitary tumor), kidney failure, and much more, my sweet girl Donut has passed away.
Goodbye my sweet Donut, you’ve more than earned your rest <3

Cracker and Popcorn had their first vs basketball game together! Popcorn (Siamese) was definitely a better choice opponent wise for Cracker, but I think it will be even better when Cracker's siblings finish learning basketball (Coffee in particular is so close to mastering it!)

And with that, my rat group has officially dropped to 6. 😔After 2.5 weeks of remaining stable on PT treatment, Butter took a massive decline last night & slipped away in the early hours of the morning. Rest peacefully sweet girl, your cagemates & I will miss you so much 💔

A silly clip of Toast - Toast was very sleepy and couldn't seem to decide if she wanted to sleep or eat lol. She was holding her food for a good few minutes before I got this clip - she really is a silly rat!

Sweet tolerant Blueberry trying on a new sweater! This was meant to be for Tofu, but she's too tiny lol. So Blueberry got to test it out instead! Of course the sweater is only used under supervision for 3-5 minutes max. All that aside, great job Blueberry!

Our attempt at a family photoshoot - it went...interestingly lol, everyone was pretty wiggly but we did our best! Also please congRATulate Olive on not trying to chomp the other group, she can officially tolerate them for a few minutes although she wasn't very happy about it 😅

This week has been a bit crazy - between getting back from a long trip & both I and my dad getting a stomach bug I haven't been able to play with the rats much, but finally everything is now back to normal & I know the rats will be happy to return to their usual routine!

Blueberry and Tater Tot have been put to rest 💔 Both girls were old rats at 34 and 38 months respectively, and with Blueberry having a large mammary tumor, hld, and kidney issues, and Tater Tot's ZGT invading her jaw, the kindest thing I could do was help them pass peacefully.

Man I love training with Cracker - she's such a perfect rat to train, so eager & great at figuring out what you want! She picked this up super quickly & while she sometimes gets too excited & goes without the ball, she's doing great and is already pretty consistent!

Banana is now gone and no longer suffering - I have no regrets on trying to treat her, but I'm glad I was able to help her pass when I did. Banana didn't deserve to pass so young, but she did deserve a peaceful death, and we were able to give her that ❤️

Popcorn has learned to fetch the mail! She was initially a bit wary of the mailbox (its metal, and rats tend to be initially wary of metal things in my experience), but she came around pretty quickly!

Look who is using her front paws again! Butters dex shot took longer than I'd like to take effect, but waking up to her doing better was great! We won't know for a bit if the cabergoline is working (or how long steroids will help), but right now I'm just happy to see progress!

Donut (black berkshire) and Omelet (Himalayan) are working on their individual parts of our next trick goal (which is vs basketball but with rolling barrels) - both girls are making great progress, but poor Omelet has a ways to go!

Very proud of Raisin here for getting down the basics of fetch and basketball! This trick has been pretty hard for her, since she's not naturally a mouthy rat, but she's figuring it out and building from here should go pretty smoothly. Go Raisin!

Current day Butter is thankfully continuing to do well - she continues to make small improvements, and last night she was so energetic and had fun exploring the play area & bouncing around!

Today marks my 3rd year of caring for Olive - I got her on January 15th, 2021, and here she is 3 years later! Unfortunately its a bit bittersweet, because she's definitely showing her age now. Still, as long as she's comfortable I will support her however I can. Love you Olive!

Today my sweet girl Olive turned 3 years old! Olive is my first rat to turn 3 for sure, since she is one of the few rats I've had who I know the exact birth date of (December 8th, 2020). I'm so dang lucky to have gotten to care for and love on this amazing girl for so long!

Found this old coat rack at a local thrift shop for 50 cents - the pegs looked to be the perfect distance apart for rats to weave between them, and with a fresh coat of paint it should be a great agility prop! Here's a clip of Raisin testing it out last night:
