Just bought a FM frequency from a dinosaur who did not know what to do with it. Having a frequency is like starting over again so the plan is to build and grow our audience for at least three years before looking for ads. Trademark is already registered hoping to launch October.

In 2024, we plan to take a step back from music production, podcast production & events to focus on growing the platform. The plan is to pivot from being a radio station and become a global platform like Spotify/TikTok with the intent to promote Kenyan music at a global level.

In the month of August 2022, Radio 254 has had a total of 562,019 listeners. Of these listeners, 49% were from Kenya. 9% from the United Kingdom. 6% from the United States. 3% from Canada & 3% from Tanzania. On 1 August we were at 10million total listeners, we are now at 10.5M🚀.

In 2021, we opened our first radio station studio after playing music without any live shows since 2020. The ideas was to open up a space where we could have live interviews of the artist whose music we play. Our first interview was with @kamauwhynaina the journey has been wild🇰🇪

Our current biggest challenge is storage. We are currently paying $406 a month to host 100 TB of Kenyan music. With new Kenyan music coming out everyday we have to find a way to store more music on our stations playlist which currently has over 4 million Kenyan songs.

There is no music submission we have ever refused to play except for non Kenyan artists. Ours has been about nurturing and promoting Kenyan artists of all genres, upcoming and established. Being a non profit is important to us but having to constantly ask for help is difficult.
