Thank you for sharing Nathan. Important for people to hear such positive things still happen after sight loss, and about keeping a sense of humour through all life (or kids!) throws at you. #SeeDifferently
🎉 11 years! Happy Blindaversary to me! 😂 11 years ago today, I woke up and my world had changed forever. No more colours, no more shapes, not a spec of light, just total darkness. Not gunna lie, it was pretty scary at the time. But here I am, 11 years later, and what a journey it’s been so far. It’s not always been easy (especially these days trying to navigate through a house full of 15000 toys and a puppy running around my feet), but I’ve built a life I’m proud of. I’ve got an amazing family, two little boys who already take advantage of the fact I can’t see what they’re up to, which will no doubt get worse as they get older 😂, a business that’s somehow still standing, and some incredible experiences under my belt. Don’t get me wrong, there are still plenty of daily struggles: Over hanging branches that neither my cane or a guide dog detect… The lottery of picking the desired flavour of crisps from the multi-pack… The joys of changing a pooey nappy, which I swear never gets any easier... Or that heartbreaking moment when you think you have the food on the end of your fork but the truth is, it’s already fell off and you’re about to get a mouth full of nothing. But for all the frustrating moments, there have been just as many amazing ones. I’ve had a small stint playing football for my country, I’ve traveled to some incredible places, met so many great people, and had experiences that I probably wouldn’t have had if life hadn’t taken this direction. So today, I just want to say thank you—to my family, my friends, my guide dogs, and everyone who’s been part of the last 11 years. Whether you’ve supported me, shared a laugh, or just been there along the way, it genuinely means the world. Here’s to another year of embracing life, dodging obstacles (sometimes successfully), and making the most of every moment. 💙🐶 Here’s an old photo with the two legends 🐾
