The Royal Irish Regiment is delighted with today’s announcement from Buckingham Palace that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Edinburgh is appointed Colonel-in-Chief, The Royal Irish Regiment.
Following His Majesty’s Accession, The King is pleased to announce further military appointments for working members of the Royal Family.
The new appointments will continue to reflect the close relationship between the Armed Forces and the Royal Family in His Majesty’s reign.

On this day in 1944, General Sir Bernard Montgomery visited the 2nd Battalion The Royal Ulster Rifles near Portsmouth, as they prepared for D-Day.
He arrived at 1100 hours and was greeted by Lieutenant Colonel Ian Harris, the Battalion’s Commanding Officer.
