The Monument to Englishmen (Engländerdenkmal) was erected in 1938 by the Hitler Youth in commemoration of five Boy Scouts, aged 12-16, who died in a blizzard whilst hiking in the Black Forest. Anglo-German exchanges between Boy Scouts & Hitler Youth were common before the war

A magnificent example which we must not neglect is the almost life-size 'Whistlejacket', painted in 1762 by George Stubbs, depicting the Marquess of Rockingham's treasured racehorse!
Meditation is antithetical to Faustian Man, who is more suited to rumination. In his quieter hours; after dinner over a cigar perhaps, or whilst passing by a woodland stream.
It is by the rising of the smoke and by the flow of the river that his mind makes measure of itself
The underclass should at least be allowed their cheap cigarettes, so that they are able to be romantic in their destitution, but they are denied even this
'Do not despise the lore that has come down from distant years; for oft it may chance that old wives keep in memory word of things that once were needful for the wise to know'

I usually don't share these kinds of images, but the similarities here are eery. Her fingers mirror the witches. His stance, the ears and silhouette their positioning and the distance between them. As well, the girlfriends apparent lack of concern/alarm

Culture without comfort, beauty without luxury, the machine without the servitude of the factory, and science without the cult of matter would allow men to develop indefinitely while preserving their intelligence, their moral sense, and their virility
I heard an old fella sing an old tune in a pub in Donegal once. The place fell silent for the sweetest melody I ever heard, brought a tear to my eye.. I've never found the tune, but if I hear it again, I'll know right away
@Mythotard
The caricature of Gimli as comic relief in the films was excessive, portraying a one-dimensional character. Naturally he is far more interesting in the book

the drill and the technology behind it required just as much passion, skill and ability as those original sculptures. It is merely a different epoch and form of genius
"Being a dissident does not mean collecting forbidden books, dreaming up plots, or taking to the hills. It means remaining loyal to yourself against the whole herd if needs be".
— Dominique Venner
At first the beauty of the melodies held me in a spell, and visions of far lands and bright things I had never yet imagined opened out before me; and the firelit hall became like a golden mist above seas of foam that sighed upon the margins of the world...

I was shocked to hear my dad claim a while back that Powell was essentially controlled opposition, facilitating immigration to Britain himself whilst in S Asia. I don't know if this is just some boomer theory, he's not generally conspiratorial. I neglected to ask his reasoning

same story in Bradford. Once the richest place outside of London, after its ethnic cleansing the residents there tie black rags to the back of their cars to show support for the taliban or whatever

our art as a civilisation is more ephemeral now. Historians in 5 millennia from now won't be able to dig up and watch 2001: A Space Odyssey, or boot up and understand a computer, or read the pages of a great novel even. they'll probably understand us more by our trash.
Anglos perfected the art of the documentary film in the 50s and 60s. It's perfection comes from common references, shared values and interests between filmmaker and viewer; the friendly tone and kinship between the presenter and his audience, and some naïvety on the part of both
Where does one begin with Kant? Schopenhauer insists upon a relatively thorough knowledge of his philosophy before tackling World as Will and Representation
A pirate without a cannon, a monk without a God, a cave without a shadow. A vast realm void of treasure, with no secrets left to yield. Alas that these evil days should be mine
The more familiar you become with the delirium of prose that is the work of Edgar Allan Poe, the more you recognise his tremendous influence on all succeeding art and literature. I should like to visit his grave whilst lost in gothic reverie, and a mood of irredeemable gloom

maybe but they would never extrapolate these outside of sportsball, which is a surrogate activity for more substantive aspects of life
