Knowledge is knowing that there was no year 0, so technically, the new decade begins Jan. 1, 2021, not 2020. Wisdom is knowing that we started this system in the middle, it's socially constructed anyway, and it feels right to treat "1 to 10" as a decade, so that's what we do.

On “bipartisan" legislation: Note that past “bipartisan” bills were not not "bi-ideological." Liberals in both parties voted against conservatives in both parties. With ideologically sorted parties, those same votes aren’t going to be bipartisan.

Great thread. This is why it's so useful to think of parties as coalitions of groups. There is a persistent group in American politics that favors segregation and racial hierarchy. That group was in the Democratic Party, and it switched to the GOP.

The Founders are problematic -- even Jefferson and Washington. But the vast majority of "tearing down statues" is not even the Founders. It's confederate leaders. They are not "problematic." They were traitors whose statues were mostly erected post-Reconstruction by racists.

A reminder: The Electoral College does not give a boost to rural voters. There are more rural voters in California than there are in Wyoming. The Electoral College gives a boost to the party that can win close, large states like PA, FL, OH.
