@Merleau1979 @JohnnyWalsh__ Do you think it's a good idea to pass new legislation that has questionable efficacy without proper study? Because this is what the Mayor is doing.

@Merleau1979 @JohnnyWalsh__ How would you suggest evaluating a program like this?

@Merleau1979 IZ doesn't work in other communities - this is the issue. Also, not sure we've ever commented on anything in Philly, nor would we feel the need to. Not sure what you're talking about.

@Merleau1979 Our study comports with what's actually happening on the ground. You can disagree with our study but it's hard to deny when this article is sharing ~1,000 units of housing that are on ice due to IZ. Housing is being canceled due to IZ, which is also exactly what our study showed

Here’s a good example of why Pittsburgh shouldn’t evaluate Inclusionary Zoning based on the “pipeline” of projects — there’s no guarantee that they actually come to fruition. You can’t live in an affordable unit that doesn’t exist.

Mayor Gainey's "punish developers into building affordable housing" won't work.

@EricIsOkay @JAldrichPL @housingfirstpgh Then maybe it would be a good idea to not extend it citywide right now and instead give the policy more time to prove that it works?

The Pittsburgh Planning Commission silenced experts who questioned Mayor Gainey’s Inclusionary Zoning proposal, allowed the mayor to personally deliver a campaign-style speech, and then voted after midnight to approve the measure and send it to City Council. We deserve better.

Wow. The Pittsburgh Planning Commission is completely corrupt. They interrupted expert testimony about Inclusionary Zoning. And now they're cutting off the ability to make the case for fully funded IZ. Absolute sham process.

PCRG wants you to conveniently ignore that Black population in Lville has dropped precipitously amid IZ, whereas Black population in SS Flats, with no IZ and more development, has shot up. Don't listen to the misinformation.

It is not debatable that the current IZ overlay district has curbed the troubling trend of displacement.

Last month, the Pittsburgh Planning Commission allowed Santa Claus to run over his allotted time and rant at length. Today, they won’t allow a housing researcher to talk about a monumentally impactful proposal that could irreparably harm the city of Pittsburgh.
