Since @Nature asked for comments on their editorial attempting to justify (and failing miserably) their decision to publish a whitepaper as a peer-reviewed article, I sent them my thoughts. Attached.
@Nature it's really not that complicated. There is no need at all for double standards. You can support whitepapers / adverts. Just tag them explicitly as a different category & don't call them "peer reviewed" cuz it's almost impossible to verify comp. results without models/code

How do chromatin modifications quantitatively impact gene expression? How do sequence variants or combinatorial marks influence relationships? We developed a modular #EpigenomeEditing toolkit to systematically test these Q, published today 🧵… https://t.co/2p4W0J50Oc

PhD students: it’s a waste to just try to impress your committee at the meeting. Bring them problems, ask for suggestions, and generally think of it as a session in which new ideas can emerge.

Outstanding discovery science (@SchuhLab) and art (@munafomarzia). More broadly, cytoplasmic lattices in oocytes being used as backpacks for proteins with future functions adds to the question… What is *full* nature of biological inheritance?
In the latest issue of @CellCellPress we show that mammalian oocytes store proteins for the early embryo on cytoplasmic lattices. Imagine the cytoplasm as a pantry with proteins stored on shelves made by cytoplasmic lattices! Thanks to @munafomarzia for the beautiful #SciArt!

🚨New Preprint🚨 In this study, we set out to determine how the de novo DNA methylation program impacts the 3D cis regulatory landscape. Comments welcome! Here's a thread detailing our study's key findings (1/12)

During mammalian embryogenesis, both the 5-cytosine DNA methylation (5meC) landscape and three-dimensional (3D) chromatin architecture are profoundly remodeled during a process known as “epigenetic...

This is simply an extraordinary study. Researchers gave $7,500 (CAD) to homeless people in Vancouver. The result? The program *saved* money. It helped many of them to move into housing faster, which saved the shelter system $8,277 per person. 🧵👇
