“Russell T Davies is just making it up as he goes along!”
Yes, that’s it. That’s the show. That’s Doctor Who. It literally has been making it up as it goes along for the past 60 years.
A great deal of anger and anxiety today, understandably so. I know that we are not everyone's favourite profession, but try to be a little bit kinder to journalists today. Livelihoods at risk, so close to Christmas.
FANTASTIC news: Absolutely over the moon that I am now officially a permanent member of staff at Reach, continuing the fine work with
@LaudablePods
! I am incredibly delighted to carry on this amazing podcast journey. 🎉🎙️
One of the best pieces of acting in
#DoctorWho
from the late Lis Sladen, hearing the Daleks once again many years later and universes away.
#SubwaveNetwork
Yes, that was me on The One Show. Not the nicest thing to talk about - homophobic hate crime - but the film was sensitively done. It was surreal to hear Ronan Keating talk about me in the introduction. The Village Angels live up to their name. 🏳️🌈
I have received an early birthday gift: Absolutely over the moon to pass my seniors, and to progress in my amazing journey at the MEN and Reach. I'm grinning like an idiot at the news after an intense few months working on this. Sláinte!
"Part of the reason radio survives is the intimacy it makes possible. The Internet is a billion; television is a million; radio is one." You've absolutely nailed it,

, in 'What I Learnt: What My Listeners Say, And Why We Should Take Notice'.
It makes my heart sing with joy to see the first ever Pride in my hometown, Blackburn. And to be here, celebrating with my mother, makes it extra special. To see so many young people out and open, proudly marching, just puts such a smile on my face. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️

It is the 32nd anniversary of the death of Mark Ashton. His story - and the important story of

- is told in the wonderful film, Pride. Gone, but certainly not forgotten. 🏳️🌈

As a charming millennial, I thought I would put my POV in. A pension we are repeatedly told, and justifiably so, is not a benefit - it is a right earned over a lifetime. And I believe this right continues for the

women who are missing out, whatever the income... (Part 1)
@TrilbeeReviews
Doctor Who Magazine have previously done some great explainers about viewing figures. Essentially: don't panic! Everyone has been predicting the death of Doctor Who since it returned in 2005.
What an enormous honour to be nominated for Best Spoken Word act at the
@GMFringe
. There were over 200 acts at the festival overall, and to make the shortlist for the festival’s awards in my debut is just phenomenal. Pluck me from the clouds.
I graduated from

with a First Class Honours (always like to add that bit in) in Journalism *checks notes* FIVE YEARS AGO?! Good heavens.

It's my two-year work anniversary at the
@MENnewsdesk
and Reach, working on the
@LaudablePods
project. I am incredibly proud of my work so far, and I cannot wait to continue my podcasting journey. 🎙️🎧
I have just finished reading the utterly superb and wonderfully silly The Stranger Times by
@Caimh
. The newspaper clippings were such a hoot, the characters brilliantly barmy, and it's a really entertaining and original story. 📖
Tonight, I felt like a comedian. Performing a full stand-up show meant the world to me, especially joined by my amazing friends and family. Teenage dream fulfilled. Bravo, McLaughlin. Bravo.
It is my one-year work anniversary at
@MENnewsdesk
, working on the
@LaudablePods
project. Even amongst the chaos of Covid, it has been a joy to create podcasts for our local audiences, collaborating with some wonderful colleagues - and here's to hopefully many more years to come!
The demons haven't quite been exorcised, but I have kicked the cursèd bipolar in the derrière and gave it a middle-finger salute. After a necessary few weeks away from work, I am back doing what I love: making podcasts.
Suited and booted for The Publisher Podcast Awards later. Yes, I know it's a virtual ceremony, but it's nice to dust off my bow tie (they are cool after all).
@LaudablePods
has been shortlisted 10 times for the awards, four of which I have produced.

I was a happy chap on Friday when I visited the Manchester Christmas markets, and had my first bratwurst and mulled cider of the season. And most certainly not the last. 🎅🏻🎄
My heart is singing, ladies and gents and gender non-specific. I've just seen two teenage boys walking hand-in-hand quite happily and affectionately in Blackburn. I lived in perpetual fear about my sexuality at their age in my hometown, never daring to be that brave and proud. 🏳️🌈
@SafeSpaceDrWho
The Empty Child. We were visiting my Nan, and it was playing in the background. I was immediately hooked! That Christmas, I was gifted the Series One boxset by my parents. One of the best presents I have ever received!
I am performing at a castle - a bloody castle! - at the end of the month. I hope to see you handsome buggers at Clitheroe Castle on the 29th, 12 to 4pm. 🏰👑🃏

(P2) Absolutely, women who are struggling (and have always struggled in terms of wage, anyway) should be supported. The pension is a universal thing. Once there are ifs and buts for the state not to pay out, they will certainly exploit that. It should be across the board.
#WASPI
I always finish with: "Is there anything you would like to add, or is there anything that we've missed?" It's a simple enough question, but I have got a few gems asking it. It can lead you down an interesting path you didn't expect.
Dear journos (or celebs, for that matter, who've been on the end of one): for a thing, for students. What's your bestest interview trick? Mine = doing a Columbo, one foot out the door, and 'oh, just one more thing...'

I'm jumping on the bandwagon, and hoping to feed my already huge ego, by posting my professional achievements of 2021. And you know what? I have a lot to be bloody proud of! First of all, I'm now a permanent member of staff at Reach, working in my dream job as a podcast producer.
I am thoroughly enjoying
@veitchtweets
'Contractual Obligation' on
@BBCRadio4
. It's very funny and very original - and I am looking forward to more episodes. 📻 🎙
@Wigan_Steven
Yes, we buggered up the captions. I think the problem was that we used the original incorrect captions found in our archives in the 60s, 70s, 80s. Hence Tom Pertwee (d'oh!). But the photos are fab, and I hope the main content entertains and informs. We love Doctor Who!
@TheWomenOfWho
Series Four - the Doctor and the Donna were a great duo, with great chemistry between David Tennant and Catherine Tate. Who knows? The next golden era could be around the corner...

Managed to catch the ice cream van of all seasons. Following my suspicions, after hearing him do his rounds in the cold, cold Salford winter, he actually sells 99s. I'm still convinced he lives a double life. 🍦
I try not to be a bitter Northerner about this, but as long as London remains in Tier 3, of course Greater Manchester and East Lancashire will remain so. We have clearly seen the priorities of this government about the North West. To use that phrase again: apathetic incompetence.
Excellent show from
@futurerobby
at The Lowry, Salford tonight. Laughing away at the

references throughout (laughing and crying at the Adric mention). Whovians, I highly recommend 'Who, Me?'

I am struggling to get my head around the loss of Orla Baxendale. Supremely talented, supremely nice. She lived her dream, and we could all learn from her dedication and drive.
@TheWomenOfWho
Christ, I feel old. Thanks for that! I adore and miss Elisabeth Sladen. The look of horror on her face when she hears the Daleks again in 'The Stolen Earth', hugging Luke in fear. A superb piece of acting, sends shivers down my spine.
The

Performing stand-up in a cathedral was odd but lovely. I think I'm the first person to say "cunt" in front of a congregation. Bless me, Father, for I have sinned...

Benjamin Cook is just doing his job as a journalist. Pedantic, yes. Unnecessary, probably. Truthful, yes. Personally there are bigger battles to fight, and maybe not the wisest thing to do. But he’s a cracking journalist who has contributed so much to Doctor Who.
@benjamin_cook
It's been quite a year. This time last year I was heading towards a breakdown that resulted in a stay in hospital. Twelve months later, I feel happy and healthy and flourishing. I turn 28 tomorrow. Bring it on!
For many years, I was so far back in the closet, I was in Narnia. Me and Aslan were best mates. When I was finally out, feeling the wind in my receding hair, it was liberating - and introduced me to this beautiful community of amazing, magical people.

I have lost my voice. Who knew that shouting at the audience and swearing at the top of my lungs for an hour would do that?
I’m still bloody delighted and overwhelmed by both the show and the wonderful audience last night. Edinburgh next?
This is rather exciting! I thought I had missed the chance to watch
@Markgatiss
' stage adaptation of 'A Christmas Carol' last year. I shall get my tickets booked for the Manchester cinema viewing. I couldn't think of a better writer and actor to take on this wonderful tale.
The only thing that has been keeping me (relatively) sane over the past few days is the coverage about the real power in 10 Downing Street: Larry the Cat (

), the chief mouser to the Cabinet Office.
