Lancashire’s No. 1 heathland course, within striking distance of 3 Open links & 1hr from Liverpool, Manchester & Leeds. A warm Lancashire welcome awaits
14 people working on the 5th hole today as it’s transformation continues. New bunkers, greens drainage, removal of penalty area at the rear. All this has been funded by our Members! Just shows what can be done when everyone pulls in the same direction

Massive shout to
@pgcgolf
Greens Team who came in on their day off today. We have dug out the small quarry on 15 to make it a real feature you walk through but it has kept flooding over the winter. A lot of drainage was required and the team have smashed it.

Very excited to announce
@topperharding
Chris Harding as our new Course Manager. Chris impressed us greatly with his passion for driving our course’s development, his experience in improving greens, & his overall knowledge & management approach. Exactly what we need!
#good2great
Very exciting day for the Club as GM Mark Bleasdale (right) welcomes Chris Harding
@topperharding
as our new Course Manager. Chris has been a breath of fresh air with his positivity and vision for the course & we look fwd to him leading
@pgcgolf
us in to the Top 100

@pgcgolf
Greens Team on a much deserved trip to Dublin. The team have been fantastic in really tough conditions and given it there all. Big thanks to our Members for funding the trip - so good to all feel on the same side and all pulling together 👍
Great view of the new tee on 15 and how we have made a real feature of the small sand quarry that you now drive over and walk through

@creative_golf
New top fairway on our famous 7th Hole “Mill” had another hand cut. All rooting well ahead of the new season. The removal of the rise at the front of the top fairway now allows a brilliant view down the hole and the newly restored bunkers. Lay up - never!!
#Good2Great
The transformed 10th hole taking shape with the 3 tier new tee having its first hand cut this week. All areas now seeded and just the irrigation and path to finish before leaving it to Mother Nature
#good2great
Work by the team and Derek Crane nearly completed to naturalise the quarry area and sand scrapes. Heather plugs planted to continue our heathland recovery plan, and some faces left steep for the sand martins

A Member emailed in the other day to ask why we were wasting money upgrading all our 70 bunkers. Other then many are now in the wrong place due to tachnology, have no drainage, fill with stones, washdown, look bland, and play poorly I don’t know I replied
#good2great
Great to see the investment in our Driving Range paying off. New Huxley strip will be great after the wet winter and special mention to our Captain
@Ba97986581David
for making the lovely dividers
#good2great
Big project underway to enlarge the pond on the 3rd hole to hold at least 2.5m litres as part of our long term sustainability plan. The pond is spring fed and will topped up by the bore hole and ☔️. This will play a key role in our long term irrigation plan
#good2great
Another project successfully completed today with the new resin bound path installed replacing the old rubber matting. Big thanks to all our Members who have all contributed to make this happen.
#good2great
Remembrance Day flag up on our 18th green in memory of all the brave men and women who have given their lives for our country and who continue to serve today. Thank you
The cold snap has allowed us to keep restoring our 8th hole Viaduct with tree removal opening up the view of the 116 feet viaduct over the river Darwen. This 2 year project is unbelievably 6 months longer than it took in 1844 to build the viaduct! Here’s to the next 177 years
Great work by the greens team
@pgcgolf
getting the path connecting the top and bottom fairways on the 7th sorted. Just need some golfers now to use it🙏
New 3 tier 10th tee had its first hand cut today! It’s now nearly 50 yards long and 3 times wider so should greatly improve the tee positions and it’s condition
#good2great
We’re been busy!! The 11th was with the exception of the railway left, a pretty ordinary hole. The bunkers weren’t in play for better players & punished only shorter hitters. Now with 2 demanding fairway bunkers at 220 and 250 decisions have to be made. What are you going to do?
A productive if wet day as we had a big push to make significant inroads into the 8th green complex. Turf seems to weigh more as the day goes on 🤔 Massive thanks to all our helpers and to
@pgcgolf
greens team. Fantastic staying power!!
#good2great
Course drying out very quickly now in the lovely Spring sunshine. No mats now other than in a couple of spots on the new holes. The season is here!!!
Not sure we normally encourage football flags on golf bags but we’ll give our Members who follow
@OfficialBWFC
an exception 🍕🏆👏
Heather turf from
@tillersturf
laid today round the new fairway bunker on the 5th hole - Valley. Was another 💨💨 out there but nothing seems to phase
@pgcgolf
Team 💪💪✊
Gone! The 2 old bunkers that summed up why we needed to invest over £1m in a course upgrade programme are no more. No drainage, in the wrong place, hard to maintain and no visual impact. Good riddance! Can’t wait to see the new ones further down the fairway !
#good2great
The massive changes to make our 6th hole “Quarry” a real risk and reward hole are bedding in nicely - 230 to carry the new fairway bunker. Are you going for it? Of course you are 😎
First time using the new conveyor belt system from
@BalmersSales
Big thanks to the Board for investing in this great piece of kit. Working great, holds 3 times more, does less damage, and saving loads of time😁
#good2great
Big couple of days on the greens - scarified yesterday and then sorrel rolled, seeded, and top dressed today. The Vredo has been a great investment and a key part of our bent improvement plan. Deputy CM
@HebdenDave
explains the process.
#good2great
Turf being laid today on our new large back tee on our par 4 15th hole “Sandpit”. The hole has been totally upgraded over the winter and now incorporates a walk through the small quarry / sandpit - it was a good hole before and now we hope you’ll think it’s Great
#Good2Great
Not the weather we were hoping for to finish turfing the new greenside bunker on “Oaks” our 3rd hole! Big thanks to the lads for trying especially on a Saturday morning

Great video of our new 3 tier 50 yard long tee complex on our 10th hole with a view at the end of the new green complex. Also shows the difference taking some trees out does to getting sun on the turf!
#good2great
@creative_golf
Lovely view looking back down the par 3 8th hole from the 9th tee.
@pgcgolf
have done a brilliant job to get the course so good in such prolonged terrible conditions. A massive shout to them & Greenkeepers everywhere who work so hard so we can all play the game we love 👏👏👏
A great day for turfing! Not said that too often these last few months!
@pgcgolf
hard at it and making great progress around the new greenside on the transformed par 5 5th hole Valley.
Very pleased to confirm the appointments of
@HebdenDave
and
@rayvon5471
as Joint Deputy Course Managers. Both have done a brilliant job over the last 6 months during some testing times and more than stood up to the task💪
#good2great
Many people have played our remarkable Mill hole - the 7th, never quite sure what the line should be! Following its winter reconstruction to make it fairer, we have also added a sign today to help the visitor choose their line! Now you just have to do it !
#good2great
Massive thanks to
@cjw73pne
from
@Hillside_GC
for taking me round and showing me the work under taken so far. Two words: “Transformational & Inspirational”. The scale of changes & how natural is all looks is amazing. A great course becoming a world class course!
Our Greens Team have worked so hard over last 6 months on our restoration of holes 5, 12, 14, & 15 in what have been terrible conditions. Put a just giving page to Members to help fund a trip to Ireland. Within 4 hrs over a £1,000 raised. What a Club!
Work continuing on on our 6th hole as it is totally reshaped to become a real risk and reward hole. For those who doubt most of the course is built on sand take note!!
#good2great
#heathland
2 new bunkers on 9th hole “Plateau” edged in. The addition of the pot bunker on the right of the green entrance will tighten the entrance for those going for the green in 2!! Bases and sand still to do after Xmas 🎄
#good2great
The investment continues with
@daleswater
drilling for that precious commodity….water. Hope to strike gold tomorrow!!The new bore hole will support our expanded irrigation system as part of our Member funded
#Good2Great
project
New front bunker designed by
@creative_golf
on the 10th replacing the much maligned cross bunker that went right across the green! A little soft fade through the new entrance or a draw over the front right one? As Lee Trevino said “You can talk to a fade but a hook won’t listen”
Frozen land has given us a great chance to get the last 70 tons of sand in to our 13 new bunkers without making a mess.
@pgcgolf
greens team have worked so hard whatever the conditions
#topteam
Great view of the grass path coming through what was a scruffy little old sand quarry and has been redeveloped to be an integral part of the 15th hole.
@pgcgolf
battling to clear more leaves blown out of the nearby woods in the strong winds 💨💨
#Good2Great
Lot of great work by
@pgcgolf
Greens Team working hard to get the new mixto paths finished on the 10th and back of the 6th. Be nice if Mr 🌞 played ball for a bit. Can’t wait for the holes to open on the 31st March
