Part 3 of our Star Trek Playmates documentary series (which I wrote and produced). This one covers the Warp Factor series as well as the line's demise. You can help us by sharing, liking and commenting :-)

In 1994, Playmates Toys released the Star Trek Generations line of figures in support of the movie. Despite some highlights, the TNG crew appeared in uniforms that were never seen on-screen!

Released in 1994 for Star Trek Generations, the Engineering playset was compatible with the 4.5" figures and featured surprisingly accurate sound effects!

Almost 30 years later, the Playmates DS9 station is still the only way to get a toy of the station itself. Features a rotating stand and a slightly out of scale Enterprise-D :-)

Released in March of 1995, this limited edition Commander Sisko figure was a mail in offer with the Super Nintendo DS9 game "Crossroads of Time". Limited to only 4000, its one of the rarest Star Trek figures of all time

After producing 9-inch "dolls" for Star Trek Insurrection in 1998, Playmates issued the TNG crew in their movie-era uniforms as Target (US) exclusives. To this day, still rare - and still no Geordi!

In Europe, BanDai distributed the Star Trek Playmates line - here's a promo for some of the ships & role play items available in 1997! (The "Voyager" phaser is actually the weird light blue version released for the movie First Contact!)

Star Trek Strike force by Playmates Toys (released in 1997) was the company's final attempt at minature vehicles & playsets after their Innerspace line a few years earlier

Wave 2 of Playmates Deep Space Nine line took some creative liberties. Using existing figures, they created a wildly inaccurate Thomas Riker, a non-canon Captain Picard plus Bashir, Dax & O'Brien in "duty uniforms".

Artist Ron Mcpherson created art for the Star Trek Playmates line in the 1990s - including some unreleased toys! This piece could have been for a new starship toy (a Borg cube?) or potentially for use on packaging for the 12" figures

An Australian exclusive - Star Trek: Voyager puzzle pieces that came with season 7 on VHS. Some of the pieces don't fit, but it ends up looking all right in the end (much like season 7)

For fans in Melbourne, I'll be presenting our independent documentary on the Star Trek Playmates figure line at Oz-Comic Con Melbourne! (Saturday June 8th, 3:45pm) - come say hello!

You can see the 3rd and final part here!
"Flashback" Janeway was one of the last Playmates Star Trek figures. Sold through NewForce Comics, Playmates asked collectors for ideas for a new figure with minimal new tooling (the winning suggestion came from Australian fan Ian McClean!)

Released in time for the 2nd season of the show, the Star Trek Deep Space Nine action figures by Playmates marked a turning point in the line. Better likenesses, neutral stances and a subtle shift towards collectors

Love it. Top ten for me. It came at a time when the show needed experimentation to combat the blandness. Kate Mulgrew is never better and Michael McKean as the clown is wonderfully sinister :-)
Advertised but never released - Bele is one of the lost figures of the Star Trek Playmates line. He appeared in catalogues and was shown off at toy farir, but ultimately dropped from the Warp Factor series in 1998

Ah the famous "orbital skydiving" scene. I'm pretty sure its on one of the DVDs. Would have loved to have it included in the movie if only for more screentime with those two :-)
The Enterprise-E with Captain's Yacht - released for STAR TREK: INSURRECTION 25 years ago. Vastly more accurate than its predecessor and still looks cool all these years later

So sad cause this was one of the finest Trek podcasts of all time. What happened? Seemed like it was all going so well. Will we get a finale or will they just bring in Frakes & Sirtis? 😉
