Gene editing technology began by people studying salt marshes. Ozempic began by folks studying the venom of Gila monsters. Support for basic science has empowered us to understand our world. Tethering it to applications health has transformed and saved countless lives.

@lowerformofwit @draiggoch99 Yeah to be fair it does align with my pre-existing worldview Read more of the coverage later when more articles came out, you’re right that the focus on language in every major outlet is misleading

@1swancelona @EmilMieilica The stories do over focus on the language part, though the other reasons for disallowing the development consent order aren’t much better North Wales Live wrote the counter case pretty well

@draiggoch99 Sure, there are other reasons cited, and they’ve picked the most egregious to lead with I’d suggest the terns that were also cited is a similarly poor reason not to build clean energy

@1swancelona I'm not sure we are even disagreeing to be honest. I don't think the Welsh language was the only reason it was rejected. I'm not sure I ever said that

@1swancelona Why would this be raised 4 years later if it weren't significant?

@1swancelona So you think that two politically independent newspapers just happened to take the same angle on a 1,000 page report? Even if the truth is that this was a significant factor among others, as so you can’t say it was purely ‘because of’ Welsh, that’s still stupid reasoning

Imagine being proud of taking 10 years to build a staircase

After 10 years, I am proud to see the second staircase at Surbiton Station officially opened! It is fantastic to see constituents and commuters using the staircase and the benefits it is already having on improving congestion. Thank you to everyone that has made this possible!

This seems to be a bizarre waste of resources The only motivation I can think of it to sabotage our potential to use nuclear power in the future

The UK making a major blunder here. Not only do they not have anywhere to bury this stuff, but it's a MASSIVE waste of already extracted plutonium! The reprocessing was already done! For some perspective this is ~3100 TWh of energy already usable.
