Biodiversity stabilizes productivity. Check ☑️ Biodiversity also increases ecosystem multifunctionality. Check ☑️ But does biodiversity also increase the stability of multifunctionality? Spoiler: yes! Our latest study @GlobalChangeBio:

This week we identified fungal fruiting bodies from the MyDiv tree diversity experiment, and found an impressive richness. One of our highlights is Dissoderma odoratum growing as a parasite on a Hebeloma fruiting body. Very rare and endangered! Nature is an incredible thing!

@Hill_EcoLab That would probably be possible. Unfortunately, in water you can only scan the biomass that is visible above the water, and you would have to consider building a floating frame. But in principle, the method is suitable for any type of herbaceous vegetation.

@fulop_dan @ATinyGreenCell Anyone can use it, including scientists/farmers etc. without the financial resources to buy expensive laser scanning equipment.

@nullbotto @ATinyGreenCell Now it takes just a few seconds to estimate the volume and height of the biomass :)

@wallerier thanks :) our aim was to avoid using expensive cameras and instead use the own smartphone to make the technology available to everyone free of charge.

@HermanBurema @UFZ_de @tudresden_de @UniHalle @GeobotanyHalle interesting! if you build a round frame that has the same diameter as the disc, then you could compare the results easily. that would be interesting to test. But anyway, you can estimate the biomass of pastures very well with this method.

@lucrecialipoma @BARBARtkowski Yes, we should definitely do that☺️ Unfortunately, there are not many multifunctionality analyses that have studied resistance and resilience, but there are surely many resistance analyses that have also studied other functions (microbial activity, predation, seed production...)?

@BARBARtkowski @lucrecialipoma 2. maybe not only the biomass of the plant community plays a role, but the whole system, i.e. the multifunctionality (see paper here: ???

We need more diverse forests! Among many reasons, such forests are more resistant to drought. Great work led by @LSachsenmaier #MyDiv #mycorrhiza #climatechange

Tree diversity isn't enough to combat extreme drought, but mixing #tree species with diverse #mycorrhizal types holds promise for #forest restoration in the face of #climatechange🌳 @idiv @EisenhauerLab @LSachsenmaier @MixedForests @Peter_Lstg

I got my first >100k € project funding. 🥳 I'm thrilled, but at the same time I'm a bit scared (bureaucracy, pressure to succeed, ...). How was it for you to spend your first "own" money? Any advice? PhD job advertisement coming soon. ☝️
