If you are a
@UKLabour
member and you're attacking the Govt for not going far enough when they've just introduced the biggest guarantee of workers' incomes in memory at a time of national crisis, might I suggest you're probably a big part of why the public hates us right now.
This is very disappointing. The decision over the future of the islands belongs the Chagossian people, it's not for the UK to bargain away. 60 years on from their exile, they've been let down again.
UK will give sovereignty of Chagos Islands to Mauritius
Looks like I'm going to need a new Twitter handle.
A huge thanks to everyone who helped deliver today's result and to the thousands who turned out to vote for change.
Keir Starmer was in
#Crawley
yesterday to launch
#Labour
's South East manifesto, offering:
🚄£19bn in transport improvements
🕸️4m households and businesses connected to full-fibre Broadband
🏠24k new council homes a year
🌲110k new green jobs
💷A pay rise for 915k workers
Just to be clear, the track record of community organisers is exceptionally poor, in most cases you could literally do better just by burning the money on a pyre. They actively cost us seats by distracting activists from effective campaigning.
Labour chiefs are facing a backlash over plans to radically reshape party staff structure *before* Corbyn's successor is elected. Regional officials, analytics and elections teams under threat.
Worth bearing in mind that his Green opponent has today officially become a candidate for the London Assembly. If she's committed to London, why is she running in Brighton?
This is personal for me.
I’m standing to be an MP in the city I love and where I’ve chosen to live for 25 years.
I’ve not stood or tried to stand anywhere else. Nor do career & pay really motivate me and, frankly, never have.
Making the change we need does.

The Labour Party was founded 124 years ago today.
In that time the party has run the country for just 33 years, yet oversaw the development of our most well-loved public services, entrenchment of liberal rights and equalities, and economic growth far above our current Government
Today I launched my campaign for re-selection as
#Crawley
's Labour candidate, to finish the job of getting the Tories out and

Polls are now closed.
Thanks to all those who made it out to vote, despite the winter weather.
Whatever the result tonight, I will always keep fighting for a better future for
#Crawley
Polling stations are now open in Tilgate, Three Bridges and Pound Hill South for today's
#Crawley
byelections. They're open till 10pm, you don't need a polling card to vote and unsent postal votes can be handed in at any Crawley polling station. Let's send Boris a message today.
Great to have so many out in
#Crawley
again today, spreading awareness that only
#Labour
will get us out of the mess created by 10 years of Conservative Government.
Yesterday clearly showed what
#Crawley
feels of the politics of Nazism.
While it's a huge relief the town avoided violent disorder, it's important to express gratitude to
@Crawley_Police
and colleagues across Sussex for their efforts and personal sacrifices to be ready to act.
Decided to look at the numbers for the next West Sussex County Council election. On current polling, Labour would take 39 out of 70 seats. I can't begin to explain: a) how surprising this would be and b) how much of a difference it would be for the county if we got the Tories out
#Crawley
#Conservatives
are now accusing me of 'cancelling Christmas'.
This is a General Election. A third of local kids are living in poverty, Crawley's NHS is in Special Measures, police cuts have seen drugs flood our streets, and that's all they can think to say. Pathetic.
@fakehistoryhunt
Wording seems to come from this story:
My guess is it's the author's interpretation of Churchill's write-up of the US Civil War in his history of the English-speaking peoples which has subsequently been reproduced as an exact quote from the man himself.
Everyone is going to say nice things now, but honestly it was clear before the start of this election that Biden wasn't up to another term and we're now left hoping there's time for another candidate to get enough traction. Totally avoidable.
Many thanks to all those who came out and voted for
@s_karensudan
@gsjhans
and I, your local

Northgate and West Green team. Time to get back on with the job of delivering for you.
I'm Peter Lamb and I'm standing to be the Labour MP for Crawley. Only Labour has a plan to:
✅ Get the NHS back on its feet
✅ Switch on Great British Energy
✅ Get Britain building again
✅ Take back our streets
✅ Break down the barriers to opportunity
These next few weeks come down to a simple question: are you, your family, your town, your country better off after 14 years of the Tories?
Another five years of the Tories will only deliver more of the same.
Only a vote for Labour will now deliver the change we need.
Congratulations to Khayla Abu Mosa, our new Labour councillor for Northgate and West Green and a huge thank you to voters in Crawley for your continued support for
@crawleylabour
.
Great to have so many out in
#Crawley
again this morning, despite the weather. Speaking up for our schools, for our NHS, for our town after 9 years' of being starved of funding.
Hopefully this global IT outage will serve as a lesson of how mindnumbingly stupid it is to tie critical national infrastructure into systems outside of our national control. It's the weakest part of our national security.
Very grateful to
@CrawleyLabour
Group for re-electing me Leader last night, for my eighth consecutive term. Will continue to work hard
#Delivering4Crawley
New Towns gave us housing people could afford, decent infrastructure, green urban space and--in Crawley--one of the greatest concentrations of employment in the UK. People are snarky about us, but New Towns were a huge Labour achievement in the 40s and they can be again.
Thanks to everyone who has been in touch since the election. We only really lose when we give up, I never will and I'd encourage anyone not yet a member to join Labour and work with us to ensure the party is ready to rebuild the country in five years time:
Many thanks to Dawn Butler for coming to down to support
@crawleylabour
's campaign in
#Crawley
this weekend. We're out talking with residents all day, every day, meanwhile the Tories are nowhere to be seen.
In possibly the most startling poll yet, Labour now has a lead amongst all categories of biscuit eater. Yet, this is no time for complacency, it's time to redouble our efforts to gain support across all preferences of cup-of-tea-accompanying-snacks.
Great response on the doorstep in Northgate this morning.
No sign of movement since the General Election. Looking good for electing Khalya Abu Mosa onto the council next month.
20 years of Labour Party membership today. For all the hard work and disappointment at times, I've never regretted joining the movement and the fantastic people I've been proud to call my comrades.
I've written to the Home Secretary calling for her resignation. We need ministers to work to bring our country together rather than stoke Islamophobia.
Many in our community are in pain right now, anyone who seeks to represent the town has a duty to act
In the unlikely event that
#Labour
did choose to be neutral in a second referendum, I certainly won't be. I didn't enter public service to make
#Crawley
's families poorer, to make England weaker and to help bring about the end of the UK.
There's only a single Conservative MP in the House of Commons' Building Safety and Resilience debate following Grenfell.
A big part of the topic is how the fire happened because those in charge simply didn't care.
The Tories still aren't listening.
Firefighters don't start fires. They don't cut Fire Service budgets. They don't cover buildings in flammable materials. They do get up every day and run into the fires to pull others out, the least they should expect is a Government which doesn't throw them back in
#Grenfell

Good day out with the team speaking with residents in Langley Green. Didn't find a single Conservative voter the entire time. Seems like most people are now desperate for a change in

Many thanks to

In a couple of weeks residents across Sussex will be protesting outside Southern Water's headquarters in Worthing, calling on them to do the right thing and make the changes necessary to ensure we have clean water in our public spaces again. Come along and make your voice heard!
Many thanks to Ed Miliband for taking the time to campaign with us in
#Crawley
yesterday. I took the opportunity to raise the challenges local authorities face in the race to Net Zero after years of Government cuts to our budgets.
Hugely grateful to the people of Northgate and Crawley for re-electing me as a councillor and Labour as an administration. We will continue working hard, building a better future for Crawley.
Yesterday's incident, and the response since, has once again proven what amazing people we have working as teachers and police in our community. They have and will always stand by us and we need to ensure that we stand by them when they need it.
Was glad that
#Crawley
got a shout-out at the GB Energy launch last week.
Yes, we have a strong economy now, but COVID proved the vulnerability of too much reliance on one sector. The council has been working to diversify local jobs and we hope to capitalise on this announcement
Fantastic to hear that the
@Chi_College
Group which runs
@CrawleyCollege
have received an 'Outstanding' in their first Ofsted since the merger. The future of

, I'm reflecting on the fact that for the first time in its history West Sussex has two Labour-controlled councils, with a third looking increasingly likely.
On one hand, it's really annoying most problems residents raise with me are for things
#Crawley
BC has no control over and consequently there's little I can do, on the other hand it's very telling that the services people don't complain much about are the only ones run by
#Labour
Many thanks to
@OrielHighSchool
and
@bbcsoutheast
for hosting tonight's debate amongst

Parliamentary candidates. Great questions from the students and lots of ground covered regarding the future of our community, and our country.
That's it! Polls are now closed. Many thanks to all those who took the time to vote.
The feeling on the doorstep has been positive throughout. I guess we'll get to see tomorrow whether polling or canvassing produces a better grasp of what is actually happening on the ground.
Hi
@timloughton
care to retract your comments on social work numbers?
Also,
@crawleybc
passed a motion to save the Think Family programme you mentioned from the £4.9m

cuts to ‘Integrated Prevention and Earliest Help’. Any cross party support?

to fight COVID-19 and they'd pay us back. Yet, when it came time to do their bit they paid Crawley £1.2m for a £4m bill, putting local services at risk. I join

Huge respect for Sussex MP Lloyd Russell-Moyle for continuing to fight the stigma around HIV >> Today
@UKLabour
MP
@lloyd_rm
stood up in Parliament and told the world he’s HIV+. You’ve made history today, Lloyd, and we’re incredibly proud.
And before anyone says it's a Corbyn thing, let's bear in mind it was a waste of money when Ed Miliband tried it and it was David Miliband who brought it into the movement in the first place. This is about what can actually deliver change and what cannot.
Good
#Crawley
council meeting tonight: ultrafast broadband coming to town, a ban on investment in fossil fuel companies, a budget strategy taking steps now to deal with more difficult times ahead, and a new and improved Local Plan amongst the key decisions.

Many thanks to
@tobyperkinsmp
for coming down to speak with
#Crawley
voters today. With three weeks to go the message we're getting on the doorstep is clear.
I’ve had a great afternoon meeting voters in Three Bridges in Crawley with
@CrawleyLabour
leader
@CllrPetesTweets
and candidates
@AtifNawaz76
and Linda Gregory.
A lot of support for
@UKLabour
in this previously Tory ward.
This Ed Balls Day, I'm reminded of when he came to Crawley and stumped for Chris Oxlade and me in Northgate during my first Crawley Borough Council campaign.
Lots of Tory-leaning papers talking down new towns today.
Labour are proud of building Crawley and it sister towns. They gave us housing people could afford, good infrastructure, green urban space and decent employment.
And now we plan on doing it again for the next generation.
With the election of eight
@UKLabour
and
@CoopParty
councillors last Thursday, the Co-operative Party have now overtaken the Conservatives to become
#Crawley
's second largest party on the council.
The US doesn't have sovereignty there, it's not up to them. It should be up to the people of Chagos and the people of Chagos alone to decide what goes on in their homeland.
US blocks British court from British territory
@aliceperryuk
Obviously the party needs time to process what had just happened, but I really hope the point is made that this needs to be over well in advance of May's elections, otherwise it puts at risk the only bits of UK government Labour runs right now.
Elections taking place tomorrow in every part of
#Crawley
other than Gossops Green & North East Broadfield. These will decide whether Crawley has a Labour or Conservative council responsible for running public services in the town. Vote to protect local services, vote Labour.
Just about the worst weather conditions imaginable for kicking off a campaign, but these amazing people still made it out to campaign in
#Crawley
in horizontal rain. If elections were won on hard work and commitment there would be only one side in the running this 12th December.
Full Council passed our Budget tonight unanimously...after about an hour's debate. Funny old world. Still, we avoided cuts, have more money for new affordable housing, investment in the town's infrastructure and an expansion of some services. Not many authorities can say that.
