Some personal news.
After recent medical tests and scans, I’m sad to announce that I’ve been diagnosed with liver and prostate cancer. Both conditions are inoperable but early stage and treatable. I have no symptoms, I feel fine, my prognosis is good and I remain positive and
I just loved the
@piersmorgan
takedown of the incredibly one-sided Meghan & Harry Netflix shows. Watched all 3 episodes &, like Piers, was appalled at their emotional incontinence & false accusations of press racism. It was Piers at his best. A good antidote to all the soppiness
Go, Piers, go!! I’m really enjoying Uncensored on Talk TV. Very watchable
@piersmorgan
. Like any good journalist, Piers takes all the couple’s main points and shows the contradictions and lies using proper evidence. Not ‘their’ truth but THE truth. Quite right too.
Once again, poor
@tonyblackburn
gets overlooked for an Honour for services to broadcasting. This really does need to be sorted as he very much deserves it after all these years. Who's with me?
Brilliantly potent 10
minute rant by
@piersmorgan
tonight on the sheer hypocrisy of Prince Harry’s revelatory TV interviews and his “Spare Me” book. Once again, Piers nails it and says exactly what a lot of us are thinking. Harry is just a complete tit.
#pmu
Please be careful and avoid speculating on the identity of the unnamed BBC star accused of paying a teenager for sexual photos. If you name him on here and you get it wrong, then you could be sued for defamation which will cost you thousands of pounds. More in my book Essential
I’ve said it before but what a wonderful show the Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV is. Public service broadcasting at its best. Both informative and entertaining.
@MartinSLewis
&
@angellicabell
have such great chemistry together & genuinely have fun putting over essential info. 👏
“As is tradition with BBC executives, once something gets to 17 years old they’re no longer interested!” The final joke on the very last

@rhysjamesy
😂😂 Sorry to see this show go. It’s given me and millions more lots of laughs over the years. Aww.
As a reminder for those tempted to speculate about Schofield and the legality of what he did or didn't do in the past, here is an extract from my book Essential Media Law about the dangers of accusing someone of something which could cause legal action for libel...
Loved that
@mrjamesob
'banned' people from talking about HS2 on his
@lbc
phone in today unless they correctly pronounced "H" as "Aitch" and not the annoyingly juvenile "Haytch". Good man.
I'm an unashamed
@piersmorgan
fan. He gets stick for his Rottweiler approach to interviews but this revelation from
@grantshapps
this morning shows not only how quickly Piers' natural journo instincts kick in but also how he changes his approach instantly.
Am I alone in thinking
@theousherwood
of
@lbc
deserves a special radio award for the clear, succinct, balanced and understandable way he talks on air about Brexit and, lately, the Tory leadership contest? He’s a great communicator & brings credit to commercial radio.
An update from me about my health. I’m pleased to say that both my liver cancer and prostate cancer specialists say I’m making good progress following treatment over the last few months. My liver tumour has shrunk somewhat after the radioactive beads were inserted three months
I so admire
@BBCHughPym
for his clear, calm & considered reporting on Covid night after night. He makes it look so easy but I know how much work goes in to making this journalism the best. This applies to many of his BBC colleagues who explain and enlighten including
@huwbbc
@CraigOliver100
@DuncanBarkes
And that ended up costing ITV £125,000 when they settled with Lord McAlpine whose name was on that list and could be seen briefly. He sued for libel.
Fascinating interview with
@StormyDaniels
by the excellent
@piersmorgan
. Piers has that clever and charming way of relaxing his interviewees so they drop their guard. Stormy came across as honest, feisty and funny. Her accounts of encounters with Trump sound really genuine.
Props to
@JimHarraHMRC
, the tax boss, for going on the excellent
@MartinSLewis
TV show and answering questions from taxpayers clearly and calmly. Good for him.
Thank you to everyone who’s sent me encouraging and inspirational messages after my cancer announcement this week. I’ve been overwhelmed with love from friends and strangers as well as current and former colleagues from across the radio industry. Everyone has been so lovely and
Wow. Congrats to
@MartinSLewis
and
@angellicabell
for public service broadcasting at its best on the Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV. Breathlessly covered so much info in an easy to understand and relatable way. Great job to you guys and your team. You need an hour next week!
I absolutely refuse to order
@StarbucksUK
drinks as “tall, grande or venti” insisting on “small, medium or large”. Anyone else with me in trying to stomp out this pretentious terminology?
Been feeling quite emotional tonight. Really proud I was awarded a much coveted Radio Academy Fellowship, the highest honour the industry can bestow. Here it is - and, no, it’s not a specimen jar but a beautifully engraved decanter which will have pride of place on my mantlepiece
Am I alone in thinking there is one broadcasting great who is always overlooked in the Honours List? In my humble opinion,
@tonyblackburn
surely deserves an OBE if not a knighthood. Seriously.
Fantastic. Two of my journalistic heroes on one show.
@amolrajan
interviewing
@piersmorgan
. Very insightful with no-holds-barred questions from Amol and characteristically forthright answers from Piers. Highly recommended on
@BBCiPlayer
now. Loved it 😍
The
@MartinSLewis
Money Show is brilliant. Great format, fantastic momentum, fab co-presenter in
@angellicabell
and of course excellent advice. Where does Martin get his energy? Wish he wouldn’t shout though! 😜
I just LOVE the rows and bust-ups on
@PiersUncensored
. Excellent provocative mix of guests who aren’t frightened to take The Great Man
@piersmorgan
to task when he eloquently argues the common sense approach on most topics (imho). I’m hooked every night. He’s been particularly
This man is a master communicator. The best.
@MartinSLewis
is great on TV but to hear him bantering on
@BBCRadioFive
every week with
@TherealNihal
is brilliant (and also funny). He explains complex financial issues in simple, direct and relatable language. Very engaging. Best of
If like me you were one of the millions who found the BBC drama The Sixth Commandment utterly captivating, it’s worth watching the excellent Channel 4 documentary on which it was based. Search under Ch 4 catch up for Catching a Killer, A Diary from the Grave. Shows the real life
So pleased to see the wonderful
@RealKenBruce
receive his very well deserved MBE today for services to radio, autism awareness and charity. I’m sure Murray and the rest of the family are very proud too. Congrats Ken! 😀👏
The BBC is crackers. They cut 450 jobs in local and regional radio/TV to save £25 million - and yet commit £100 million to spend on increasing diversity on TV. Why not just spend £75 million on diversity and save the jobs? Crazy management.
@piersmorgan
Please let’s not credit the organisation or give them the joy of free publicity. Just call them environmental protesters. It’ll annoy them more than anything
I’m extremely impressed by the exemplary way
@ChiefJersey
& heads of other emergency services are handling the PR & press conferences after the tragic explosion in St Helier. Tricky to balance the right to know with sensitivity of relatives of the deceased but they are spot on.
OMG. The BBC getting a real pummelling from MPs in the Commons today for cuts to local radio. Some real venom that they’ve failed process, staff and listeners. Tim Davie surely has to step in and reverse/reconsider the current plan otherwise he and others will be toast.
RIP BBC journo Peter Sissons: "Go back to basics. Report on the news. The term reporter is the noblest word in the language, not this term 'correspondent'. Far too much opinion is creeping into news reporting to steer the viewer into what to think” Quite.

Watched
@piersmorgan
on Talk TV for the first time tonight. Excellent challenging but relatively calm studio interview with two of today’s oil protesters & daughter of 90 yr old whose funeral was disrupted because of M25 chaos. I liked it & will tune in again. Nice one Piers!
Another great interview for
@piersmorgan
- this time Billy McFarland the fraudster who served 4 years in jail after the infamous Fyre Festival fiasco. Fascinating
Happy 50th birthday to commercial radio 🎉 I’ve spent 40 years of my career at stations such as Invicta, Southern, Chiltern, Galaxy, Essex, Vibe, Wireless, TalkSport, Hallam, Metro and now Fix and Podcast Radio. It’s still a great industry!
Proud of my constituency MP
@Nus_Ghani
for taking a stand on Chinese human rights abuses. Nus - your sanctions are a badge of honour! Keep up the good work.

If you’ve been made redundant (or are at risk), and we’ve worked together at any time, please get in touch and let me know how I can help you. Can I write a LinkedIn recommendation for you? Can I put in a good word to someone? Can I help you with a career brainstorming session?
Struck by the outpouring of grief expressed by radio listeners on Twitter for all their local Heart breakfast presenters who will be replaced by a national show from Monday. As someone once said, "Morning radio fills the intimate space between sleep but before daily life". True.
It was fascinating hearing so many radio stations handling the death of Prince Philip in such a professional way, both in terms of news coverage and music selection. Congrats to all the on air and off air teams - BBC, commercial and community - who did what was expected of them.
Two of my favourite BBC journalists sharing the screen from Holyrood tonight. They successfully explain complex stories in an understandable way: exactly what great journos do.
@thehuwedwards
@ChrisMasonBBC
I wholeheartedly support
@Radiocentre
’s strong stance on this. The BBC is being hypocritical by spending money to launch four new soundalike national services replicating existing commercial stations while pleading poverty and cutting back BBC Local Radio which is truly
“The BBC itself seems to be losing the will to back radio as a broadcast medium, urging us all instead to become podcast fans. To me that seems like a shop that only offers canned food. And listeners to a flagship news programme expect fresh meat, thoughtfully prepared” - radio
I love listening to
@ChrisMasonBBC
on the Ten o’Clock News explaining political strategy in an accessible way, putting events in a context so viewers can understand what’s going on and be less confused. Journalism at its best. Big fan!
Last night’s Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV was brilliant journalism and public service broadcasting combined.
@MartinSLewis
did a great job of challenging Rishi and gave an excellent explanation of the new measures. He really is so good! 🙏
@richardgaisford
Stay Safe, Rich!! You do a fantastic job and, when I think of that 16 year old at hospital radio in Tunbridge Wells, what you've achieved in the past and what you do today makes me very proud of you.
My old mate

I can’t begin to describe the overwhelming sadness I feel to hear the devastating news that John Myers has died. A giant of the radio industry whose life touched and influenced hundreds of radio people. A loyal friend to many, he’ll be sorely missed. Thoughts with his family 😔
A few days ago
@FixRadioUK
planted an empty skip in the middle of central London. Then we stuck a camera on it and live streamed what would happen if we just left it to its own devices — and since then it’s been fly tipped into numerous times, vandalised and has made national
Oh wow. What a lovely, classy tribute at the end of ITV News at Ten tonight to the wonderful
@GaryBurgessCI
who is retiring today to focus on his health. An on-screen credit! Only certain people will understand the importance of this and how much it will be treasured by Gary.
Just want to pay tribute to the brilliant

TONIGHT: My world exclusive TV interview with Stormy Daniels, the woman at the centre of the ‘hush money’ sex scandal that led to President Trump being arrested & charged with 34 crimes. It’s utterly riveting. 🔥🔥🔥

The textbook unflustered way
@sarajcox
handled a request caller who said "c**t" live on air today is already in my Media Law & Compliance training session slides. Sara did exactly what she should have done to the letter - apologise profusely. An excellent example to younger DJs.
Really enjoying the Catch and Kill podcast by
@RonanFarrow
with the behind the scenes story and audio of how NBC covered up the Harvey Weinstein and Matt Lauer sexual harassment cases. Fascinating.
Amazing watching the pics on TV of the Nightingale Hospital in London. All ready for patients. 4,000 beds. The biggest hospital in the world built within a week Extraordinary effort by the NHS and the army. Makes you proud to be British 🇬🇧
People always ask why I don’t have a dishwasher in my kitchen. Truth is that when I was a kid, my mum usually made me wash up after meals. So now when I do the dishes by hand, it reminds me of her when she was alive 😐
On reflection,
@thepaulhollins
and I think we over-reacted to the news about Huw Edwards so we have changed our minds and kept our book Essential Media Law on sale (though it may take a little time to reappear via Kindle). Sorry!
Why would the BBC spend licence payers money on new sound-a-like radio stations already provided by the commercial sector while at the same time cutting back its Local Radio services which are truly distinctive and not catered for commercially? The BBC just has to has its sticky
I’m going to be cheeky and post the edited story from today’s

Dear BBC and other newsreaders - the word is pronounced MAGISTRAITS not MAGISTRUTS. And the word Mayor is pronounced "mare" not "may-or" (the latter is the German pronunciation for Major!) Love, Mr Pedant.
I can’t begin to describe the overwhelming shock and sadness I feel to hear the devastating news that John Myers has died. A giant of the radio industry whose life inspired, touched and influenced hundreds of radio people. A loyal friend to many, he’ll be sorely missed. 😔
Just what is the point of the BBC’s 10 o’Clock News coming live from a tourist attraction Hull tonight? A tick in the box to show they’re broadcasting from Oop North? Ridiculous. It adds nothing to the story of the Chancellor’s Statement. Both Chris Mason’s and Faisal Islam’s
Wow. I just LOVE
@MartinSLewis
and his TV show with
@angellicabell
. I’m in awe. He makes important personal finance advice fun, entertaining and engaging. And they both have great chemistry. Such an outstanding example of public service broadcasting at its best. And it’s on ITV!
Great hearing
@DavidLloydRADIO
on Radio 4's Feedback programme talking about the dire state of BBC Local Radio and reminding us all that the BBC is failing in its duty to the licence payers. Like many, he sounds very frustrated. Something doesn't smell right at all here...
