@PuppehSSB
Dude...
Wow. So not only did Cinnpie CHEAT on WaDi back then, but ABUSED a MINOR at that.
That's not one, but 2 L's. Take one of those and reverse it to make a "U" because YOU done fucked up.
I'm only gonna say this once...
Jazz is NOT the story of advanced harmony. Jazz is the story of Sex, Drugs, Love, Vice, Virtue, Darkness, the Light, Honesty, Lies, Discovery AND Ignorance, and the limits of Humanity.
If you can't come to terms with THIS, you can't play jazz.
Chords in jazz - RANKED, for competitive play, based on jazz patch 8.0. All chords are viable in casual play. This is just based on my experience as a competitive player for the past 12+ years and studying how the meta has evolved over time. Video coming soon.
I can FINALLY say it... I AM NOW AN ANIME SAXOPHONIST!! I'm floored, beyond honored, to announce that I've been featured as the sax soloist in The Rising of the Shield Hero Season 2! You can hear me in Ep 3 (9:29), and more tracks to come! Thank you so much
@kevinpenkin
for this!
OKINAWA BLUES!!
Impromptu backstage jam with a traditional Okinawan singer after an incredible show with
@awich098
. They asked me in Japanese, "do you want to play a quick session together?" And of course I said yes. Everybody got the blues! This is how you heal the world!
Look who came to my gig tonight... I can't believe it - the legendary Go Ichinose!!! Also known as... The composer for EVERY POKEMON GAME since Gold/Silver!
Thank you for everything you've done, for your incredibly kind words towards me, and for checking out J-MUSIC! 🙏🏾🙏🏾
Well, I can't believe it, but it's time... it's ACTUALLY finally time...
For me to MOVE TO JAPAN! This move has been the biggest source of hope, anxiety, happiness, stress, everything I could think of... but now it's time for my dream to come true.
See you in 2023, USA!
I'm gonna be honest with you, and I hope I'm not being obnoxious by saying this...
My next big dream as an artist is to play live at
@EVO
someday. Either solo or with my band J-MUSIC Ensemble.
Today, we just lost one of the greatest saxophonists, composers, musicians, geniuses, period, of all time: Wayne Shorter, 89. I never got to meet Wayne, but he was one of the most important influences on everything I've done. He's always been "the other side" of me... RIP, king.
@PuppehSSB
Oh and to everyone saying "Oooh my man got it in at 14" because you all haven't grown up yet, try reading past the intro of the twitlonger, you fuckwads. You can't imagine the mental trauma this dude had to go through at arguably the most crucial time of his development in life.
Today was beyond surreal. One of the best gigs I've ever had - getting to perform for my favorite fighting game of all time,
@TEKKEN
, and getting to stand with the voices and heroes of the comp scene,
@Tasty_Steve
@MarkMan23
and
@reepal
! Thanks a lot!! I hope there's a next time!
I was on the Late Show w/Stephen Colbert for weeks at a time between 2016 and 2020, and looked at sheet music maybe twice, ever. Most of the time, we didn't even have time to rehearse. Jon would play something in our ears and we had to catch it WHILE Stephen is talking LIVE
some more:
-Cover Band gigs (horn parts)
-Artist Gigs
Get a call to back up Idena Menzel/Temptations/etc and only have an hour rehearsal? Gotta read the charts.
I'm declaring this now. If this all comes to an end with Israel succeeding in clearing Palestine from the map, you ain't ever hearing ONE NOTE from me at ANY jazz festival or tour in Israel. EVER. I don't swing with genocide.
Today was the greatest day of my life.
10 years. 10 years of studying you as my biggest inspiration in music.
Thank you, THANK YOU
@sasakure__UK
!!! MY HERO!!! 😭 I cannot wait for this great future!
This cat really just brought up "Shenkerian analysis".
Pack it up. How anyone with a brain can listen to this cat spout this rampantly ignorant BS about jazz and the blues is beyond me. Just keep listening to people who actually play this music for a living.
The harmony is not that all that different. You can analyze almost 95% of Jazz via
Schenkerian. The instruments are literally the fucking same LOL. Jazz/blues is not "largely improvised," though I can understand why you'd feel that way if you have no background in music.
Everyone always asks, "Why can't ___ be jazz? You're gatekeeping." and I'm expected to have an answer.
Then I back up and ask, "Why does ___ NEED to be jazz?" and suddenly the whole room is quiet.
I'm getting a lot of feedback regarding the placement of people's favorite chords
This is a competitive list. In casual play, anything is viable. However, this list is based on what WINS GAMES. And in a resolution meta, 3rd and 7ths are crucial for having the best matchup spread

I've been saying for years that people are playing "So What"/"Impressions" wrong because they're just looking at chord symbols. They aren't in D minor.
Well here's maestro Jimmy Heath quoting Miles himself when asking him how to play on it. (from "'Round Miles")
I'm starting to really hate this whole idea of being "born with it" when it comes to my musical ability. It feels really dismissive of my work and the potential for others to be great, too. I hate it.
I'm tired of this weird epidemic of cats sounding exactly the same, or not putting enough of their own spirit in the music. You need to go out there and get heartbroken, feel REALLY GOOD, seek the shit that makes us human, and learn to express ALL OF THAT in the music you make.
I think I've come to a powerful realization as to why the average person think "jazz is relaxing" and not hype......
BECAUSE Y'ALL ARE PLAYING THAT WAY!
PUT SOME AIR IN THE HORN AND HIT THE DAMN DRUMS!
@insanerainmusic
Late to the party, but I finally got a free minute. Let's-a-go! Blowing some over this dope virtual band (Shout out to
@KhrysWilliams
for the badass trumpet section)
Thanks for the quaranjam, Carlos 🎷
Bro every time I hear Eterna Forest I'm like, there's no way this song is from a Pokemon game. This song is so vastly different from every other song in the franchise. It's such an unbelievable piece. The B section DESTROYS me every time.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS! 🎄
Here's my arrangement of "My Favorite Things", played live at Body And Soul! Thanks to
@ohjazztv
for hosting us. Have a great day everybody!
I hate the social hierarchy that prevents you from even respectfully telling older people that they need to practice. They think they are good and are getting gigs, but they still need to work on their time, sound, ear, etc.
Controversial opinion: Jazz is simply failed music.
It sounds like a child scribbling all over the page. Formless, meaningless, and unpleasant. Just a bunch of random noise that people trick themselves into liking, while they become numb to true musical quality in the process.
All the greatest musicians in history have learned to embrace their humanity in some way, shape, or form, and have at least FACED these elements of being human, regardless if they indulge with them or not. This is the depth and range that gives the best of this music its sound.
Yeah you don't realize this until you come to Japan. You need to be here to remove the naive perception you might have of Japan otherwise.
Groove music is "recognized" in Japan, but only the musicians who make it are the ones who care about it like that.
So I can FINALLY say...
I'M PERFORMING LIVE AT THE
@TEKKEN
ONLINE CHALLENGE NA FINALS!! You can catch me playing your favorite Tekken bangers on the OFFICIAL TWITCH CHANNEL at 1PM PT/4PM ET (I play at 2 and 4)! Thank you
@chrisceg
for this opportunity!
I'm ecstatic to finally be able to say it! Starting next week, I'll officially be a new Adjunct Saxophone Professor at the
@univmiami
for 2022! I can't wait to learn even more from the students and my experience than they will from me!
@ProChara
I hate that you or anyone else has to apologize for this. Everyone who could ever be mad at this just doesn't understand what being young is (because they are still young). People learn and grow. We should be fine with the fact that you haven't said that since then. That's enough
NARU!!! Absolute BEST audience I've ever played for in Japan - might be the best PERIOD. Thank you all for continuing to make Japan feel like home for me. たくさん来てくれてありがとうございました!😭🙏🏾
What a day. Played in a section with Eric Marienthal, and also played alongside the legendary Eliane Elias (who I've been a fan of for a long time) and Marc Johnson. Then I got to see Randy Brecker and hear him say "I'm a fan of yours."
It was very very hard not to cry tonight.
Well, this is going around again, so once again I'll say thank you! And watch the full video on Adam Neely's channel! (There are a lot of mistakes I've since corrected, though...)
MARK YOUR CALENDARS! My debut album "First Song" will release worldwide on December 12, 2023!! First on Bandcamp, then everywhere else!
There'll also be bonuses like alternate takes, sheet music, and more, only on Bandcamp and Patreon! SEE YOU SOON!!
【For my recent followers】My master at Sega was Mr. Kenichi Tokoi. His music (for example, Space Channel 5) is so funky. Also, he taught me how to use "Digital Performer" which is the DAW I still use now.
I'mma just state the obvious about this whole blues situation to end all this for good:
This is just another example among the countless examples in history of a dude "trained" in a Euro-centric classical perspective trying to make sense of black art within their own system.
You're not gonna hear this from jazz school or YouTubers because they're trying to keep their jobs and prevent parents from suing them. I'm not saying you need to DO all this shit, but I am absolutely saying you need to be AWARE of it.
I'm honestly really tired of debating jazz with non-jazz musicians, and then they call me elitist. This is the strangest timeline I could never imagine being in 20 years ago when I first said "I like jazz, this is fun."
GIANT STEPS! 🗣️ + 🎷
Trading with myself (and finishing my lines) in the goofiest way possible lol. I'm sure everyone's tired of hearing Giant Steps by now, so hopefully this little stupid game I play with myself can shake it up a bit. 😂🤦🏾♂️
I always read requests for TEKKEN8 (whether they come true or not).
However, please do not send it in Japanese through a translation site / tools.
They are hard-to-read (encrypted) texts for me.
Please send in English or your native language.
Thanks!
Man who gives a fuck about politics, this is JAZZ bro lol. Like, I don't care about "fascism", "right wing" "left wing" WHATEVER, bro, can you SWING ????? 🤯😱🗣️💯
Tomorrow we take over New York.
Tomorrow I say shove it to the people who doubted me.
Tomorrow we play the greatest jazz that's ever been played in Dizzy's, and I have no fear about what anyone says about that.
If you got a problem with that, play better.
See you there, then!
@its_adamneely
Nah, how are we letting people like this say this kind of mess and influence others for free? How has that post not been ratio'd to hell by now? I really am out of my element on this app, sometimes... Man, that's so sad to read and see that it's not a troll.
My childhood is complete!! Tonight I'm playing a gig with the great
@BandohSatoshi
at JUNA's Session! Please look forward to the videos!
If you know me, I listened to all of his songs in Gran Turismo 5 when I was in high school. This is a real dream come true 😭 Thank you!
Fighting games really are like jazz nowadays.
Both are no longer the dominant popular media, but have a reign amongst their communities so strong that they've retained a loyal fan base committed to excellence and zero compromises no matter what.
Jazz + FGC forever. 🎷🥊
Preview of my notes for an upcoming video. Wanted to share what I learned from my 7 years of primarily playing in the NYC trad jazz scene as my line of work. Until I make the video, hope this is of use!
I think Japan has finally taken me for granted. Everyone was right when they told me I shouldn't get too comfortable and stay too long. It happened. I don't feel valued anymore by Japanese audiences. New York misses me more. I've seen the truth, now. It's time.
Being black in Japan is so fucking weird. I don't even want to talk about it in text right now, I just want to express how weird it feels being black in the world and how it doesn't feel like there's anywhere that's safe for us to feel like we can thrive except our own areas.
Man, I honestly don't care what kind of flak I get from this, but...
Why is "music theory youtube" such a thing? I'm tired of feeling like I have to fight this battle against bigger creators that are influencing the narrative of what younger people think it means to make music.
Stop saying jazz is "improvisation". Improvisation is not the main element that makes jazz. Plenty of other styles of music have improvisation and are not jazz.
If you REALLY and sincerely think I'm telling you to go have sex and do drugs to make jazz music, you are living proof that nuance and imagination are dead on this app.
I don't know why I waste my time with this every time. But I'm going to keep living my life anyway. I care.
I think people that define jazz as just "improvisation" are either understandably ignorant to the history/culture of the music, or one of those "All Lives Matter" folks who want to delete the reality of where the music came from and what makes it sound like it does.
These people really don't care about jazz at all. They need to stop abusing the name just because it makes buyers feel more "fancy", then telling people we're gatekeeping for being confused at seeing Lil Nas X at a "jazz" festival like ????
2023 RAP FESTIVAL FEAT. DUKE ELLINGTON
HUGE NEWS! My first major jpop collaboration has just been released! I recently had the honor of writing and performing the horn parts for this new song by former NMB48 and AKB48 singer Sayaka Yamamoto (
@SayakaNeon
)! You can check it out everywhere now! 🙏🏾
🚨SWING ALERT🚨
We're back - and it's getting warmer in Tokyo! And it seems like more people are out, too... (as you can hear by me telling my phone guy to watch out for cars 😂). Here's "All The Things You Are" by Jerome Kern!
How long until they invite me inside...? 🤔
