New research using student level data from my colleagues and I @CUDenverSPA provides rigorous, empirical evidence that Denver’s strategy improved student learning systemwide, including for students the district has historically failed to serve. #edpolicy

@marcportermagee If you are trying to win back someone's trust, simply telling them to trust you is probably not the best strategy.

Today @CUDenverSPA 8:45am MT Declining enrollment in Colorado is real. See the districts that have lost 1K students or more since 2019 Two of three largest districts have declined almost 10% since 2019, 8k+ in @JeffcoSchoolsCo and 5K+ in @dcsdk12 #edcolo

Change happens: "a picture of the eleven abandoned old country school buildings and the new central building in a Colorado common school district. The picture itself tells an interesting story of the practical development of the rural educational system of the State of #EdColo"

NAEP test results: Colorado’s scores are mostly stable, as gap between low and high performers widens. Among Colorado fourth graders, 35% tested below basic in reading in 2024, a higher percentage than anytime in the last two decades.

"Lower-performing fourth and eighth graders posted the worst reading scores in over 30 years. In eighth grade math, the gap between the highest- and lowest-performing students was the widest in the test’s history."

The National Assessment for Educational Progress results show a dispiriting and growing gap between students who are academic stand-outs and those who struggle. Reading scores also fell. But fourth grade math was a bright spot.
