Limits are improved as compared to the 'preliminary' version due to improved jet substructure modeling Redoing the limits required retraining ~100k NN's ... Very glad to be done with the CMS review of this one 😪

@GordanKrnjaic @martinmbauer Many measurements/searches have improved 2x or maybe more with ML (eg H->bb) but prob not Nobel level yet If we are able to see Higgs self-coupling at the LHC it will be from ML but we aren't there yet

@merz_garrett Its unfortunate that boundaries like this restrict hiring/funding opportunities, cross pollination fields is incredibly valuable But insofar as we think the idea of 'fields' are useful at all you gotta make some distinctions IMO similar to genres of art which is argued to death

For the record, I think that developing methods of how to apply a tool like ML to solve a physics problem is physics But developing an abstract tool like a neural network divorced from any physics problem is not
