In the most despicable section of Lexâs self serving monologue after his usual disclaimers he complains about Zelenskyâs ego, temper, & moral soliloquies calls him a âshowmanâ. Then chastises him for insulting Putin & failing to take the opportunity Lex offered to sue for peace.

Happy to see people in the field joining the pushback. We donât need to cede this ground to contrarian doomsayers and publicity hounds. Personally, I have a huge project on the physics use case for a new, higher energy collider coming very soon!. Stay tuned!.
i am saddened by some of the loudest voices in science communication right now. their goal should be to communicate correctly -- and create enthusiasm for -- science. instead they seem to be actively trying to create a bizarre and anti-intellectual atmosphere. 1/2.

@sirajraval This is disgusting. Taking advantage of desperately ill people to peddle your AI bullshit is pretty fucking low. Stop. Do much, much better. That would start with simply deleting this egregious trash.

@MattStrassler I struggle to think of a field where the ability level/skill set/training of the people in that field is more poorly aligned with remuneration than fields like (particle) physics. Suggestions that scientists are making bank are almost always in bad faith and/or ignorant.

Those intergalactic spherules sure sunk without a trace, huh?. .
Well, there goes Avi Loeb's credibility. He had a good run. Context: Forbes is a lunatic who promotes the false theory that MH370 was teleported and that there are videos of this teleportation, even though the videos were proven false.

You've heard of a particle accelerator, but what about a particle decelerator?. @CERN uses particle decelerators to slow down antimatter particles like antiprotons, so that they can be captured and stored for long term study! . Check it out!. Link:

If a billionaire funded a new high energy particle collider (~20bn dollars), would you be happy to call it/work at the âMusk colliderâ or âZuck Zapperâ?. Put your machine name suggestions below!. Personally⊠110%, even if hyper cringe đŹ . H/t @SemiCognoscente.

For those who missed this on Friday evening! :).
Why do physicists want to build a new particle collider? đ€. In this series, I will break down one main reason - the mapping of the Higgs potential and explain how it will help us to tackle some of the most stubborn open questions in physics. Playlist:

Finishing up a script on the need for a new collider (including a lot of Higgs potential stuff) and came across this by @MattStrassler. It's a lovely explanation of the hierarchy problem and unnaturalness. Take a look!.

@MattStrassler Just to clarify. There can be - and are - sensible discussions about the direction of physics programs, resource allocation etc. However, those discussions do not contain phrases like âwhole fields are scamsâ, which are commonly used by some of our biggest online âinfluencersâ.

@alpacaman216 People love to be told theyâre right. The drug is confirmation bias. The pushers are alt media and influencers who get rich from spreading misinfo that people want to hear. Sadly, these people have worked out how to use social media and bias to turn lies and garbage into cash.

@MattStrassler @EricRWeinstein In any case, back to doing something productive and writing up the physics use case for new colliders. Itâs clearly something that hasnât been adequately conveyed to the public yet. Merry Christmas, @MattStrassler.

@MattStrassler You can see the deployment of this trope in many - particularly politically charged - fields: climate sci, vaccine and drug development, evolutionary science etc. Sadly, weâre starting to see this trope used lazily against scis in other fields as it riles contrarian audiences.

@ArthurCDent As you already know, there are a lot of these alt-influencers who intentionally lie and calmly spread nonsense and then - when experts push back angrily and get annoyed at being accused - whine about civility and how âno one can speak anymoreâ. Highly tedious. Sadly effective.

@_everythingism @ArthurCDent My take: He did it because he knows it will "trigger the libs", he'll get pats on the back from the doofuses he spends all day with on here, and people will dive in front of him to dismiss it in isolation as accidental, due to his aspergers etc etc. He's an edge lord child.

@PaulQuixotic @ArthurCDent I also have to think about how I feel about some of my very successful colleagues and friends going on these podcasts and sane washing these grifters. On the one hand, you can get good info to a large audience. On the other, youâre lending your credibility to horse shit. Tough.

@Cole_August @ArthurCDent He likely knew dozens would dive in front of the bullet for him and he could run around doing this boring âI triggered the libsâ and âthey call everyone Hitlerâ rubbish. Given that he spends all day boosting actual racists, I can see why people are suspicious of him.

@PaulQuixotic @ArthurCDent Iâm currently quite accepting/supportive of it, because these people are already big, so having scientists reach that audience and boosting âbetter influencersâ seems like a win. However, I feel uneasy when eg high profile scientists turn up on âvaluetainmentâ or Peterson.

@Cole_August @ArthurCDent Iâm confused by those offering E the benefit of the doubt. I donât think he intended a full throated Sieg Heil. I think heâs a tedious troll who found it funny to perform an inflationary gesture for the titillation of fellow trolls with a fig leaf of plausible deniability.
