How does a building that hasn't been used for decades, with disconnected electricity, on a rainy day magically go up in flames?
Bet this land is acquired by private developers for flats within 12 months.
Crooked House, Pt.2
Katie Hopkins, Joey Barton, Laurence Fox et al don't care if you hate them. In fact, they love it.
But they are only as relevant as the attention they receive. So just ignore the fuckers and they will become worthless.
Car = 0
Bollard = 1
Kings Heath, Birmingham
If you can't see the bollard, or the 'no cars' sign on the massive planters, you probably can't spot the child.
Kim Kardashian flew all the way from LA to Paris just because she wanted a slice of cheesecake from a specific hotel, and then flew home again.
Whilst you and I drink from paper straws to save the world
You know what? I'm just angry. I'm so fucking angry!
A handful of faceless people messed up a decade ago. And now thousands of jobs will be lost.
And when these people look for alternative jobs, there won't be any. They'll be forced to 'work in tech' - just like Rishi wanted
Well, the news is out. And it's absolutely crushing for arts and culture in Birmingham.
Some of Birmingham's best loved arts and cultural attractions face cuts to their grant funding from the city council.

I always thought 'You're Beautiful' was a song about James being ravenous after a hard day's slog in this cold corporate world, and then finding a box of Sun Maid Raisins at the bottom of his man bag.
Well, the news is out. And it's absolutely crushing for arts and culture in Birmingham.

I'll be honest, I didn't like this building at all.
But I came to appreciate that whether I liked it or not was quite irrelevant.
Architecture like this is part of the cultural story of Birmingham. And once it is gone, a tangible part of our city's history goes with it
🚨BREAKING NEWS: Birmingham City Council planning committee have voted 7-4 to approve the demolition of the Ringway Centre for the second time. This is the wrong decision for the city's heritage, environment, businesses and residents.
More to follow...
Never forget:
Michael Gove saw the state of Bham Council, sent his mates in to 'sort it out', awarded them £1000-1200 each per day, and forced Bham residents to pay for their wages by approving council tax hikes
(Long post)
So, I got curious/bored and decided to investigate the '108 cardiac deaths for vaccinated FIFA players this year' claim. There is certainly a lot of noise about it online. Lots of charts and people screaming on Twitter. Very worrying I'm sure.

See that white sign to the left of the cyclist? That's a school care charity.
See that yellow sign a little further down the road? That's a primary school.
But yeah, the issue here is the bollard.
@LetsGoBrando45
Great speech, but wokeness means 'alert to and concerned about social injustice and discrimination', not 'naive about scientific solutions to climate change' or 'being blind to the troubles of other nations'
Dismaying to see people argue "art shouldn't be funded" as "it is elitist".
Art is human. Charging people to experience it MAKES it elitist!
Countless studies shows the benefits of art on wellbeing. It saves people. It brings people together.
What's next? Privatise the parks?

The enforcement of Union Flag-flying under the notion of ‘national pride’ does not actually result in automatic pride. It results in jingoism.
Pride is earned, and speaking for myself, pride in my country is at an all time low. Forced nationalism does not result in patriotism
The following GB News presenters haven't even acknowledged the horrific earthquake in Turkey/Syria, yet have tweeted about Brexit or Meghan since the start of the disaster.
Jacob Rees Mogg

...to name just a few. Speaks volumes doesn't it
The issue is simple: Most people don't live at one end of Bristol Road or work at the other. It's like connecting Brighton to Sunderland and saying "why aren't people in Manchester using the motorway?"
I cycle to work, but there aren't any cycle lanes on my route. Build more.

GB News presenter says Brexit was successful, because we didn't all starve to death
Is this the yardstick now?
How about listing 5 success stories if you believe in its achievements. I'll wait.
Is anyone else a little worried about Birmingham's readiness to host the Commonwealth Games next month?
It's the 2nd day the trains have issues (again), flights in/out are being cancelled, the trams are nowhere near ready and the roads are a state
I think we need more time...
'The commissioners will preside over what is likely to be a fire sale of assets, which could include the Library of Birmingham and Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery.'
Just when Brum needs a serious injection of culture, our limited assets could be sold.
So, what we actually have is a lot of unfounded misinformation that has again been shared widely, without those sharers checking if the facts are true. As usual.
It took me far longer to write this post than to do some simple investigating.

Selly Oak can be messy at the best of times. But at this time of year an apocalypse hits.
Seemingly good utensils, furniture, bedding and electronics discarded under food waste.
Surely there's a solution to this waste?
Just received news that Greenfield Crescent where my business is located is finally becoming pedestrianised. That's a friendly term for 'LTN' by the way
It was one of the main reasons I opted for this road last summer, as opposed to Moseley/Harborne which I also considered

A coal powered plant takes between 50 to 200 months to build, and creates around 3.5B kW per year
A wind farm can be constructed in a fraction if that time, and outputs 6B kW per year

I remember Chris Whitty saying back in Feb 2020 that 20,000 deaths would be a 'good' number (albeit shocking at the time) and was an achievable figure if we took the right actions
We didn't take those actions. We delayed, blundered and failed. And 5 times as many people died
The problem as I see it:
My wife & I went to Manchester last month. We were walking around pointing at their new buildings going 'We've got that one. We've got one of those'
The more unique buildings we pull down, to replace with identikit towers, the less 'Birmingham' we'll be
@NoContextBrits
We're actually quite welcoming of other cultures/foods/religions. More then we give ourselves credit for
Within walking distance I have curry houses, Chinese/Korean/Japanese/Jamaican restaurant options, Mosques, Temples, foreign language community centres. All of them successful

Wow. What a sad day for Birmingham iconic buildings.
No doubt another off-the-shelf drab rectangular solution will fill The Crown's footprint.
Had some good nights in this pub. Sad times.
An announcement about The Crown. We’ve been working hard to secure a future for The Crown and save the iconic heritage asset from commercial redevelopment. However, we’re disappointed to share that we are unable to progress. Read our full statement 👉🏼

1) This happens on 31st Dec 2023, not in 3 days
2) These laws will likely be replaced by very similar UK laws instead. As there is still 12 months, details have yet to be announced

There will be a cut to ALL funding for culture projects and local arts development, including support for 10 local arts forums.
Support will initially be retained for Black History Month and Birmingham Heritage Week in 2024/25 but those events will face a 100% cut from 2025/26.
I'm absolutely thrilled to say that with a few hours left to apply for Birmingham Open Studios 2023, 148 artists have now completed their application.
Every year the event has grown bigger. Last year we hit the '100 Artists' milestone, which I thought was pretty amazing.

This is the 21st century. People/goods/ideas/finance/innovations/medication/information is constantly crossing borders. Our decision to make this all much harder and more expensive is frankly ludicrous
