Hey, I am Overlord Lettuce, jack-of-art-trades and proud owner of brainworms the size of fully grown pythons regarding this niche little game called Team Fortress 2. If art starring armed dudes in primary colors is somewhere within the realm of your interests, give me a follow.
Question: So Zesty defends people's running around in game with swastika's cause it's their right to free speech, but that right to free speech doesn't cover mapmakers making a joke in support for civil rights cause it's political...
So, how does that work exactly?
Also needless to say, I completely disagree with his point in the deleted clip.
Showing support for trans people (and the entire LGBTQ+ community) in-game is not “injecting sociopolitics” it's showing support for a group of people who deserve support.
WHY? Why NOW? Why is
#TF2
the only property Valve treats like this?
It's getting so depressing being a creative for this game.
The workshop has become the scapegoat for all the game's troubles and trying to create stuff outside of it get's you nailed.
Here is my yearly reminder that this is supposed to be an art account, I present to you:
"goons, mercs and crooks of every faction" vol. 1
My attempt at drawing some common, generic enforcers of many extended
#TF2
universe factions.
(deathmatch merc, GRN & YLW team:
@tf2classic
)
I've had to do a little something for a creative course I am following and used the opportunity to evict an idea that's been living in my head for a couple years now. A hypothetical racing game
#TF2
spin-off. I'd love to explore the idea some more in the future, so stay tuned
Very interesting thing to wake up to. Happy smissmas everybody. May your days be as sparkly as my new Pyro fit and congrats to all my fellow workshop contributors who added something to this year's case
Still recovering from catching the coof 2 times in 3 weeks, but seeing the

energized me to finish one more of these...

extended universe escapades soon(ish)
well this post is almost gonna have more likes then I have followers. I'll have you know that this was only a fraction of my based-posting powers and I also do art... sometimes. FOLLOW ME CHEAPSKATES.
Normally, the concepts I post on here have yet to find their home with people capable of bringing them into the 3th dimension. With this one, however, it's a not a question of IF but WHEN they're gonna end up on the workshop. Stay tuned, the hween grind is gonna be interesting
This game has been my gateway into games & gamedesign, it has been my drive to improve a whole array of skills, it has been the platform for my greatest creative achievements yet and it has been a beacon guiding me to an online community I feel at home in.
#savetf2
HAPPY SCREAM FORTRESS MOTHERLOVERS!!!!!!!!! Once again the hween spirits just absolutely whacked me over the head with some goods. GG to all my fellow champs getting stuff in this
#TF2
case
Normally I only post my
#TF2
concepts when they're already claimed and made, but I am pretty fond of these 2. Hopefully they find their way to the workshop eventually.
@constantinnenn
I love that every time his harassment campaigns against the workshop are brought up, it's always: "Ow, but little Zesty Westy warns his audience not to harass people uwu". Somehow completely missing the 18 min screed where he calls workshoppers a cabal of greedy degenerates
These are usually things I don't really show to most people, but this kind of concept work is what I spent a lot of my time on. There's tons I did for
#TF2
cosmetics, but these ones I am currently making for the folks
@OpenFortress
.
to celebrate almost 400 followers, here's a little something for the OG lettuceheads out there.

... Soldier? (I've landed on "Enforcer", though that might change if I find a use for him)
It was literally unplayable for the general public since s&box hasn't had a full public release yet. The development was on indefinite hiatus and was using an entirely new codebase afaik (leaked code being the excuse the Open fortress & TF2C dev's got).

thought: Silvia the seal is getting all the love she rightfully deserves. But I feel like the Sharkbay shark is being unfairly overlooked. Where the shark love @?
Also, unless the mapmakers wanna chime in, what is their name? I'd say he has "Steven" energy.
Waking up to seeing Zesty pick a fight with TF2's favorite uncle and Dane absolutely based-posting on main about the workshop.
You love to see it folks.

@Zesty_Jesus
See I just don't think that it's productive to shame people who abuse a system. If the system is being abused, the creators of the system should respond. We don't tell the bot hosters to "stop running bots", we tell Valve to deal with it. Because it's their responsibility.
Sure, it's Valve's IP, but it's consistently only people using the TF2 IP they will go after. Meanwhile people in the Portal community are left to their own devices and see what it leads to: Banger fan-created content (re: Portal Revolution).
The problem with FUNKe's video wasn't it's contents (it was actually pretty pro-workshop creator). The problem is that the wider public took away entirely wrong conclussions.
No matter how many times people try to bring FUNKe when discussing how he “ruined” TF2 art-style discussions, he was 100% right about everything in his video.
TF2 is really funny but that comes from it’s writing and connection to it’s theming. There’s an effort to be made.
The "official" ways of creatively contributing are slowly rotting. Making cosmetics for this game, you're competing with a decade worth of items for +-70 slots a year and in case your items make it in, have your hard work tied to the umpteenth stale, broken, bot-infested update.
"The Heavy Update" is just HL3 all over again. Stop idolizing Valve-made content and give community content the respect it deserves. People are doing far cooler stuff with this game then Valve ever has, but everything dies cause this community has the attentionspan of a goldfish
Screw it, I am just going to say it:
While it's funny seeing a bunch of posts recently, clueing people in to some of the weird nonsense slung at workshop creators, I hope the wider TF2 community figures out that most "critiques" of the workshop are BS.
And that BS has a source...
@pcgamer
Look I get GabeN is gaming's nr.1 parasocial daddy, but honestly they should have gotten yahtzee there as prime representative of the "Glorious PC Gaming Master Race"
Quick PSA: With the announcement of the
#TF2
summer update, there's gonna be an influx of interest in the workshop. If you wanna make posts/video's/fanart featuring workshop submissions, plz at the very least post the links. Treat these like any other form of digital art.
Bots ruined smissmas, Itemservers went jokermode, and Valve is incapable of shipping an update that isn't broken for weeks... But dare go outside this rusted, spit & tape, spaghetti coded framework then no effort is spared to have you hunted by the cocainsniffers from Valve legal
"while maintaining the art style to the theme"...
I nearly had an aneurism, trying to read that sentence.
FUNKe did just actually melt the brains of an entire fandom into paste, didn't he?
At this point,
#savetf2
isn't going to cut it, we need a
#savesource
(2).
@valvesoftware
got countless billion dollars worth of PR from their reputation as a pro-fan creation company. If they don't want to uphold their end of that social contract, They should come out and say it.
Hello everyone. We have some unfortunate news to share with you.
Today, we received a DMCA takedown from Valve on all our public GitHub repositories and all its forks made by the community.
So, I Probably tanked my engagement metrics by doing nothing but retweet stuff for the last couple of... forever. But here's some original content: A

-Styled character and his dog (Dog's name is Blamo🐶).
@Dude_The_Ninja
Simple: these are people who heard FUNKe missunderstand what artstyle meant in a video 6 years ago and have granted themselves a PHD in workshopology solely on that piece of misinformation alone.
I just did a little happy dance after seeing this. Yet another one of my favorite games I got to contribute to. Thank you so very much for considering my design. I can't wait to see what the artist at overkill turn this into.
I am really hoping I managed to get this in before the deadline on
@PAYDAYGame
's 10th anniversary contest. A good ol' fashioned bomber jacket for all those high flying heists. Good luck to the other contestants.
#PAYDAY10thAnniversary
mapmakers, now getting the same abysmal treatment by the community as item creators, might have been given new tools to work with, but are now also pressured into designing entirely new gamemodes with ridiculous short deadlines in-between updates. Something they're blamed for smh
Go play
@tf2maps
testing sessions!!!
they're held nearly daily, both in American & Europian servers. It's seriously some of the best fun & varied experiences you can have with this game. Botfree, moderated and you help out mapmakers finetune their maps in the process.
so tired
of all the problems surrounding tf2
cheaters, bots, transphobes, people with bad decals, insufferable assholes, no communication from valve, no fixes against the bots, teammates and enemies refusing to kick cheaters and bots.
i havent had a fully good tf2 session in ages
I specify this is supposed to be volume 1, as I already have 4 more in the works (maybe you recognise some of these). I've still got more living in my head rent-free, so I'dd love to evict them onto a canvas someday
"Forged Enforcer"
Giving a faceplate, made from a thermally conductive material, to a raging pyromaniac never seemed like a better idea.
Plz vote for it on the
#TF2
Workshop!!!
@TF2_SFM
What kinda bizarro world college are you attending where the teachers are more zoomer-brained then the students?
I would've immediately grown a grey beard and a rocking chair and gone "Teachers these days, back in my day, educators would have had respect for the classics."
There used to be this narrative in the community that development of
#TF2
should be handed over to another party. If there is one team experienced with games running on an ancient, eldritch, spaghetti-infested, spit-and-tape-reinforced, piece-of-shit codebases, it's these guys.🤔
PSA: don't harass workshop creators because you don't like the contents of the new crate. Know that all the people who made pandering xmas items also have massive backlogs of well-made, artstyle-fitting, awesome stuff... that Valve just straight up refuses to add.
My ass was mentioned on an official

blogpost. Thank you
#particlemayhem
team for the opportunity to contribute to something cool by & for the community.

I really love this guy and I want the wider

community to really pay close attention cause this is basically Zesty Jesus without the inherent respectability of a large platform, the charisma nor the vagueposting (and maybe a little more neckbeard).
Might as well use this to give some thoughts on Classic. They nailed the vibe, even with all the new stuff they added onto it. It maanages to very much feel like the product of an earlier era.i
Dear "TF2 Purists" and "Workshop Critics"! I would like to propose something!
If you don't want a dying 16 year old shooter game to become more fun and whacky for new players, I would highly recommend playing THIS instead!
No community gamemodes, no vScript, no bullshit!
You've got me conflicted. This is Valve, actually making content for their own game for once, but also, they could have just slapped the Selbyen Seal on there. It would be a way better piece of marketing since it's the one viral thing that is actually drawing people to the update
This got me thinking: This scream fortress is basically bringing the exact same amount of content (minus war paints) as the summer update but the reception is completely different, I can quickly think of 2 reasons why:
Man i hate to put a downer on things, but i genuinely feel little to no hype for Scream Fortress this year and it sucks
i used to be regularly checking the blog, rushing to see all the new items/effects added, hopping on to play the new maps but that spark is just not there rn
"Super Small Sleigh-Haul"
This little guy might definitely steal your heart, but they would 100% stuff it in a box, haul it across the world in a sleigh and give it to a kid in need of a transplant.
Ain't that nice
Plz vote for it on the
#TF2
Workshop!!!
The duality of being happy for a whole lot of workshop people rn, a bunch of champs who put in a boatload of effort. While also despising Valve's item selection for this years
#TF2
smissmas crate.
To all the zesty stans out there, I hear your frustration, and I sympathise. But have you considered that your critiques being ignored or mocked isn't actually the sign of some grand conspiracy against you but rather the result of you being shit critics?
"Doomed"
A war paint based on the OG DOOM logo
I've got a lot more in the queue to be uploaded in the next days, so stick around to see what else I've been cooking. in the meantime...

I've been nominated for MANN Magazine's Workshop Creator of the Year Award.
Given my competition is cracked animator
@setrynuts
& workshop titan
@PieSavvy
, I've got a hard time not simping for them instead, but I have to defend my honor as the leafy green rep in this year's vote
The November Issue has dropped! Featuring as Mann of the Month is John Patrick Lowrie! Also here in Glitch, SeaRavioli, Chaotix, Krampus and the yearly Mann Awards!!
Each major category can be voted on here! Voting ends the 15th
It's still so funny to me that the wider
#TF2
community is so deep in the culture war sauce against the workshop that they have decided that everything from (ancient) religion to kaiju movies are "furry" now.
I am on vacation but still wanted to join in on the

Comments/quotetweets on this is a 50/50 split of people either malding they gave Hale full-length pants or wanting to burry their faces in coated-up saxtiddies.
It's kinda weird thinking about 2023. Last couple of months where kinda bad. But thinking back on it, actually a pretty eventfull year. Managed to: -Contribute to & release a community event
-got mentioned on the TF2blog
-was interviewed by mann magazine & got nominated by them
@danekevincook
It isn't good faith criticism though. And it's not targeted at Valve. It's mostly a lot of shitslinging at workshop creators because unlike all the other previous subjects of "criticism", the workshop doesn't have youtuber representation who could lay out a counter narrative.
Zesty Jesus has a very obvious MO: Target a sub-community that mildly annoys him. Then, make a BS narrative about them being a cabal of evil game-destroying greedy, incompetent manipilative,... bastards and tack enough sensible critique to that narrative to feign legitimacy.
"The Cold Stare"

Wrong. The workshop is a crowdsourcing platform. Creators provide assets and the community can voice their like/dislike of those assets, but it's ultimately Valve who decides what is included in the game with no other party having any real options to influence that decisicion.
@OverlordLettuce
The whole point of the workshop is for the community and people who play TF2 to decide on what they want in-game, not just the people who make the items.
Everybody already cites TF2 lootboxes as the progenitor of lootboxes in every game. But I don't think most people realize just how bad Valve's brand of lootbox is. It's gambling all the way. It's an even bigger gamble to get anything into these, then unbox anything out of them.
@BeardedExpense
Ok, I know you're doing this whole disaffectionate memelord thing, but why would you see Valve do a riff on the dress meme and immediately jump to it being a trans thing? This doesn't even feel like a rainbow corpo stuff, just Valve being boomers.
