@jenniferelle_ Cycle breaking is difficult work I don’t think we talk enough about beyond the positives, praise or inspirational quotes. It’s hard, messy, and often very isolating and lonely. Parenting your parents is exhausting. Parenting your parents while raising kids more so. Sending love.

@swilkinsonbc @eattherichbych This sadly has always been a tool of colonization. And, there’s so many examples out there. I’m truly surprised at the many that are shocked by this news.

@MegW613 @Joyhenderson78 We grow our own & preserve, my kid works at the farmers market (we’ve gone there since he was learning to walk) and we have such great racialized markets/stores here too. It hasn’t been hard for us to divest (even more than we had) but it’s new and/or hard for one stop shoppers.

@marcieaston @SarahLarchmont Power differential. I suspect while some of the responses you’ve gotten are likely somewhat valid it’s also a power dynamic that keeps him in control when they’re young and just starting their careers.

@MegW613 @Joyhenderson78 You’re not wrong. I had named this in a post where I simply said the response is staring folx right in the face: BUY LOCAL. Reinvest in small businesses. Relearn your community outside of one stop shopping. Start forming relationships with the people you buy from.

@therealwoodsbre @Joyhenderson78 Canadians working for American companies on Canadian soil would be bound by our health and safety. I was speaking to American companies importing American food. I’ve included my thought process under Joy’s initial quote tweet for reference.

@Joyhenderson78 especially for those who are vulnerable - children, elderly, pregnant, immune compromised, and otherwise disabled people in our community. I’d encourage you to take this into consideration and ensure it’s not just our egos and pocket books driving these decisions. /.
