This is going to be long. Sorry.
The entire "parent's rights" thing happening in AB right now is entirely based on strawman arguments, red herrings and sheer imagination. 1/12
I love all these “god gave us this perfect immune system, why would I think we could do any better?” people.
My immune system might decide to kill me if I eat a shrimp.
FTR, I have 34 desks in my room currently. I just got a call asking if my teacher's desk at the front can be removed in order to try and fit 1-2 more desks in my room. I don't know if I will actually have more than 34 kids but.... guys. This isn't going to be pretty.
How come, for so many, being proud of Alberta only extends to the dead dinosaur goo we found under the ground?
Why are we not proud of the wonderful education system? The healthcare that doesn’t leave thousands of us bankrupt per year? Stuff like that.
What teachers ARE doing:
- Creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment
- Recognizing that these students are individuals who have their own identity and rights
- Providing support that is *asked* for.
-Keeping the well being of these kids in mind. 4/12
Teachers are not:
-Counselling kids to keep secrets
-Assuming all parents are abusive
-Telling kids not to be comfortable in their own bodies
-Wanting to "replace the parents" 2/12
So, finally looked.... our car insurance went up 900$ a year. Goddamnit. Sure glad paying my carbon tax is hidden now. Life is so much affordable in
@jkenney
. What a joke.
We know that LGBTQ kids are extremely overrepresented in the youth homeless population. We know that LGBTQ kids are more likely to be abused. We know that marginalization and stigma leads to mental health issues in these kids. Let's not make that worse. 7/12
This disclosure thing only applies to the tiniest fraction of kids. The most vulnerable kids. Kids that are specifically not ready to tell their parents and express that (For whatever reason. Maybe they just need time). 5/12
You can find some obscure reference to some really weird situation (often from extremely questionable sources) to make it seem like things are happening, but they are not in any systemic way. 3/12
Therefore, it follows that this only represents the tiniest fraction of parents. I think we can all admit that there are a tiny fraction of parents who don't have safe/healthy relationships with kids. That's not controversial. 6/12
The need to address the fact that instead of putting decisions back into the hands of parents, they actually took away the ability for parent's to consent to things that are not permanently altering. 10/12
In regards to surgeries and such, the odd thing is that this actually restricts parent's rights more than it frees them. They are banning things that don't exist to justify banning less controversial things. If they can say "but you agree with ______!?!?!" they don't feel 9/12
The UCP have now had to kick 3 members out of caucus.
These weren’t the members yelling at doctors on their driveway or harassing them via phone with unethically obtained numbers. Not the guy accusing the opposition and media of wanting to watch Albertans die. 1/5
Apparently, the UCP guy came to our door and I wasn’t here. Missed opportunity but at least he was still sent away with “it’s never going to happen, keep your pamphlet” haha. ❤️ my wife.
He was a bad GM from a hockey perspective.
He was a bad GM from a human being perspective.
The Oilers had every chance to do the right thing here and just shot themselves in the groin.
The kindest thing I can say about these people is that they are an embarrassment.
Being "proud of our oil and gas industry" doesn't mean you need to piss oil on every corner and get upset about anyone who challenges the status quo.
So Jason Kenney sees what is going on in the world today and decides to take money from victims and give it to cops and to start taking official questions from Rebel Media?
@DangitBird
@95percentcoffee
The thing is, they don’t really think it’s easily fixable but they love when people take up that mantra. They don’t care. It’s simple as that. If it doesn’t impact them it isn’t worth caring about to them.
The UCP have done absolutely nothing to help Albertans during back to school.
They just got almost 300 mil from the feds and all were got were loosened restrictions on safety measures. What a joke.

I’m old enough to remember when the UCP was the only provincial party asking for money from the feds while simultaneously spending money asking people to wish Jason Kenney a happy birthday.
I gotta say, If Kenney ever followed through with the idea of calling an election to teach his caucus a lesson and then lost to the NDP would be one of the funniest things I've ever experienced.
Ok so. I’ve mainly been gone the last couple of days and after some drama and some stress I can finally announce
@aboschloe
and I welcomed our second little boy yesterday. Super pumped over here.
Ok, I am asking this earnestly and would appreciate any amplification I can get to avoid my (relative) echo chamber. Can anyone name anything positive that the UCP has done for everyday people in this province?

So, in AB, our positivity rate is back over 5%. We have the highest per capita of active cases in the country. Variant cases are rising exponentially. In only a few weeks we went from like 150-200 cases a day to 450-500.
Can we not do the whole giant third-wave thing please ppl?
I keep pumping this but education has to be a major priority in this election. Education is an investment, not a simple line item. There’s one party that has flat out ignored population growth funding for school and they’d be a disaster.
Imagine having watched the oilers waste Connor McDavid’s 18-23 year old seasons and going “I’m ok with the new GM thinking he can take his sweet time for the next 3 years”
Is it unreasonably crazy that I went to respond to Lagrange’s post on Facebook but deleted it because I'm half afraid it'll put me on some blacklist as someone to target for removal from my job at some point?
@StaySaif
@CDNCrickles
When you have to be bludgeoned into doing the right thing, you don't deserve praise for capitulating to do that thing. Especially if it meant more people dying while you dithered.
I'm glad something is happening but yeesh.
I love the fact that the Oilers are now currently paying James neal and Lucic for nothing and it’s still better than paying one of them to try and do something.
Ok everyone:
-Education is not industry and shouldn’t be treated as such
-Your anecdotal experience In high school doesn’t define the system as a whole
-The sum of a students learning can not be measured by standardized tests
-Our education systems is one of the best in the world
It’s the obvious choice to bring the

We look forward to welcoming the league and players here to Alberta to take in the beautiful province we have to offer.
To see vulnerable Albertans not having a federal government making them a priority is incredibly frustrating.
We need more vaccines now. 1/3

Bell: Alberta takes aim at Trudeau's botched vaccine plan
Not the MLAs publicly undermining public health initiatives via a letter calling for restrictions to be lifted (some while having significant outbreaks) 3/5
Step 1: Fire Nicholson
Step 1a: Hire someone competent instead (preferably some1 katz doesn't know personally)
Step 2: Fire Holland
Step 2a: let the competent person hire someone else competent.
Step 3: Fire Tippet
Step 3a: competent people hiring competent people
Step 4: profit
A) too little, too late
B) don’t believe it anyways
C) imagine NEEDING to have to take “unprecedented” measures to keep out the hateful bigots because they’re attracted to your party like flies to a mountain of 💩
