On February 8 Director Andy Wilson and other Department of Public Safety participated in the 2025 Law Enforcement Torch Run Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Ohio at field in Columbus. More than 700 people participated in the event which included a costume contest. Proceeds from the Polar Plunge will help provide year-round sports, health education, and athlete leadership programs for 20,000 Special Olympics Ohio athletes, all at no cost to the athletes. The event in Columbus raised more than $224,000 for Special Olympics Ohio. #polarplungecolumbus #freezinforareason #specialolympicsohio

Yesterday, the Missing Persons Working Group convened for its second meeting at the Ohio Department of Public Safety. You can watch a recording of the meeting at Ohio Governor Mike DeWine announced the creation of a working group to examine how missing persons cases are investigated and offer recommendations for improvement. Members of the Missing Persons Working Group will review and study Ohio’s resources and response to adult and juvenile missing persons cases including database usage, law enforcement staffing and training, and investigation best practices. Recommendations are expected to be issued at the end of April.
