"I'm going to 3x my portfolio this year" Is a terrible goal to set for yourself. Sure for some itll work but not for the majority. Rather than focusing on an irrational number just focus on steady growth throughout the year when opportunities present themself while limiting drawdowns. The key here is not forcing things to achieve something. You'll be surprised how quickly you can grow your account while you're not looking ahead at a number you haven't achieved yet. Some markets will provide more opportunities and some less. It's hard to predict the degree of opportunity. What you can do is just try and stay consistent and ride the waves with what the market gives. Setting lofty goals can just make you be more aggressive than required and cause you to lose more than you set out. I'll say it again, it's best to focus on consistent sustained growth over time while limiting drawdowns as much as possible.
