John Hamilton: 101, Dunkirk veteran, AA gunner & shot down 3 Stukas. ‘The film was rubbish,’ he says. Oh, and he goes to the gym five days a week and does 400 sit-ups each morning. And saw Hedley Verity bowling & first went to Lord’s in 1932.

Having been moaned at for ages by various people that I should write a book about the Occupation of the Channel Islands during the Second World War it seems a publisher is interested off of the back of the blog. Brief meeting today and off to the UK for a proper chat in November.

Heading off to the annual memorial service for a Typhoon pilot killed on 5 June 1944 attacking a radar station in Guernsey. The attack was to try and stop the radar from spotting the D-Day fleet and aircraft approaching Normandy on 6 June. Blog out this evening about it.

David McCallum, who starred as Illya Kuryakin in the 1960s hit spy drama “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.” and had a supporting role as Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard on “NCIS” decades later, died Monday of natural causes in New York City. He was 90.

Found this in the Bundesarchiv. France, near Dinard Air Base near St. Malo.- Captured American tank M4 Sherman Firefly. I hadn't appreciated that they had done this in some numbers. Knew they used French tanks etc. Must have been a risk of friendly fire!
