My neighbour, the amazingly talented
@_Taaooma
makes the tastiest small chops. Excellent textures and the spice is just right. Today's order has arrived. It's a happy day... 😁
I'm now a menace to myself because how I plan to be eating this everyday is doing me. Hey God...
@ThatPHCBoy
God forbid some people. I don't even want to imagine what her life must be like. She'll be going to work with a sad smile, then go home with dread. Everyday. 😐
@ThatPHCBoy
As difficult as it sounds, you're right. No need making excuses for a deadbeat parent. The child will find always find out the truth, eventually.
@Sisi_Yemmie
People with narcissistic personality do this. A lot. They always need to be seen as very nice by everyone, but treat thier immediate family (especially a spouse) badly. And the family/spouse can't complain to anyone.
@ThatPHCBoy
Just imagine. Left with nothing after 66yrs of marriage. And her sons? Whoever marries them should know what to expect, because women are obviously nothing to them. God forbid some people. Tueh.
@ThatPHCBoy
Honestly. Divorce court in Nigeria is a terrible thing. Many women are subjected to this treatment and worse. A lady brokedown in court 'cos her husband wont let her see their children aged 6 and 3. Even the judge was horrified. He threw her out and kept the babies. Evil.
@Jollz
@docneto
Thank you Jola. You responded well. Strict parenting like typical Nigerian parents is definitely different from physical assault on a spouse all in the name of marriage.
@ThatPHCBoy
Oh I just remembered... "Where is our food? Who is bringing our food? We need it now."
THE CURATE (PRIEST) PESTERED ME AS I STOOD BY THE GRAVESIDE AS THEY LOWERED MY FATHER'S COFFIN INTO THE GRAVE. I'M ADA AND I WAS A WRECK. IT TOOK EVERYTHING WITHIN ME NOT TO PUSH HIM IN.
@Ebun_babyy
Thank you for this thread. I have a friend who does this too. He's going through a lot but will never say. So I encourage him, I pray for him, I tell him it's ok to rest and breathe...
Dear men... We notice and we encourage you in the sidelines.
@Nnedi
So thankful to know you and your daughter are fine. And yes, I agree with you. Now is not the time for holidays and gatherings. Everyone should stay home and stay safe. Our families will understand. Eventually (we hope!).
@subomiplumptre
This really resonated with me. Introverts love to go out, we're just a bit selective when we do. Going out should be relaxing and give us the opportunity to enjoy 'the outside' the way we like it. Or we'd rather just stay home.
@ozzyetomi
This made me cringe. And upset. I understand the need to correct children, but beating the child??? It is so traumatising. I have often had to intervene when I see a child being beaten, especially in public. I really can't stand it.
@Benking443
@AnnelieKampe
How she has grown! My heart melts whenever I see her pictures. God bless you and your labour if love for your daughter. She is such a beautiful child.
@Benking443
See how she went first to the doll, glanced at the other stuff then went back to the doll... That's my baby girl! She knows she's a little princess. Gats to do those baby girl things. Blessings to who got these lovely things for her. 🥰
@oku_yungx
Entitlement on steroids! Her ingratitude has caused her loss. And her loss is someone else's gain, 'cos your mum will help someone another. Blessings to your mum.
@MrMekzy_
Truth. When you like someone, you tend to want constant communication and availability. Works both ways actually. Women are very emotional beings so you will notice this quite obviously.
@ThatPHCBoy
An Igbo man. He just turned away as if to say "do your worst". I looked at him with disdain and tried to comfort the young woman as she wept. She came to court with her mum and aunt. Her babies! My heart bled that day. Even the judge was horrified. God forbid some people.
@Gidi_Traffic
@Nxtpope
I've been seeing the messages to steer clear of Ozumba Mbadiwe all morning. Good to see the accident is being cleared. But someone drove that tanker, yet no one has said anything about him. Where is the tanker driver? And is he ok?
@MrMekzy_
True. Silent treatment is really awful. It is extreme emotional and psychological abuse. It messes with your thought process and can trigger feelings of self-doubt and worthlessness. A terrible thing, laced with toxicity.
@MrMekzy_
This!
I remember a man told his wife "I have to listen to what my sister says about you, 'cos I don't know you. You are just a wife."
Meanwhile, the sister never talked to the lady till she married the man.
*His wife left after 15 yrs of shege. The man took their 3 kids.
@unkonfined
That's hatred. Pure undiluted and deep seated hatred. To destroy someone's character because they are not liked is hatred.
And there are many people who do this. Even those who are supposedly good and righteous, which is worse 'cos that's hypocrisy too.
@RitaOnwurah
People will often have opinions or fault others for standards they feel they cannot afford. This is why we shouldn't let the comments, views, reasoning or angst of others deter us from whatever we want to do.
That's their stance, not ours.
@ThatPHCBoy
Absolutely. Treating yourself every now and then is so important for self love. Treat yourself because there's only one of you! The best part is having such a good feeling afterwards, knowing that you've done something nice for yourself... Be. Live. Become!
@ThatPHCBoy
I met a lady. She told me she spent years stashing away cash whilst in a horrible marriage. She even collapsed and was in hospital for a month. She finally walked out after 15 years and set herself up in a fully furnished apartment. With car. Osband still can't believe it.
@ThatPHCBoy
Being overweight, I know this. Some doctors are kind though. But others, even when you do get treatment, the doctor will still advise to lose weight. It's the way it's said that makes me uncomfortable, like I wouldn't fall ill if I wasn't fat. Yep. Blame the fat.
@TheFidora
Cucumbers grow follicles, that is, nails and hair. Eat cucumbers regularly - at least once a day or every other day - and in 2 weeks you'll notice the difference in your hair and nails (growth and lush!) and your skin will glow.
@Benking443
I love your baby girl! May she always bring you joy, peace and happiness, as God strengthens you to be the best dad ever. Bless you both. 🌻
Sent an author the first 12 chapters of her manuscript I had edited. Her reply? "I love it!"
Now editing the rest of her manuscript with a silly grin and a sense of accomplishment.
*Flexes fingers. Sips tea. Delves into manuscript with 176,000 word-count. Yeah, man. 😎
Finished editing for a first-time author. Non-fiction and a very touchy topic on the travails of subjugated women. Sent the final edited manuscript to the publisher and the author says she has really enjoyed working with me.
*See me blushing with a Cheshire cat smile 😊
I got balloons! 🎈🎈🎈
Thanking God for life, and appreciating everything He has brought my way. For my friends, my work and everything in-between. I am awed. It's been an amazing year, and here's to many more filled with love, life, vibes, chills and bliss.
@Benking443
This is so wholesome. Thank you for sharing. I'm happy you came through for her. It's important to be active in children's lives as it helps shape them. You're doing great 🦋
@imoteda
@LolaRo29
Eeeewwww to the 10th power. This is why I'm always sceptical using glasses/tumblers/mugs/cups in certain people's homes. I'm already mildly OCD (everything has to be in order, in lines, cleaned and symmetrical - even colours) so messy drinking utensils definitely put me off.
Ten years ago, I made a tough life-changing decision. I was lambasted and ostracized by even 'friends'. Looking back, it's the best thing I did. It's my life, and I need to live the best way I can. Alive.
Not everyone wishes you well, and that's fine. Be true. Live for you.
Everyone deserves a second chance - at life, at love, at just being. Life happens to us in more ways than one, and it doesn't matter who did what or who did not. Heal. Find joy in little places, set boundaries, and blossom.
Be. Live. Become.
It's been 9 days - and counting - in
@NaijaTrainer
's 500 push-ups a week for 4 weeks challenge. My core and abs feel firmer already... 💪🏾
In other news: I told my trainer about the push-up challenge, and he told me to do 100 a day. That's 700 push-ups a week. Who sent me oh...😩
@ThatPHCBoy
True. The signs are there in children. If parents are observant, they will see them and should put a stop to it. But then again, some children may mimic their parent's behaviour, and when this happens it might be difficult to curb. And boom! A bully emerges. Sigh...
I went through a rough patch and felt I was fine. I didn't realise I hurting badly till a friend showed me kindness. Then I cried. Heart wrenching tears. Knowing someone cared was so reassuring, and I needed that.
Be nice. Be kind. You don't know what someone's going through.
That chuffed feeling you get when an author calls and says you gave his work a "facelift" and that he "appreciates your prowess" as an editor. If you see someone with a wide grin today, that should be me. My day has begun well...
#EditingWithNG
@ozzyetomi
Gosh... I have no words... I left a meeting in Festac to go to back to VI. I took my eyes off the road for a few minutes, and when I looked up we were in Tin Can Island. My driver was blank. Da heck???
Edited a really tough manuscript and sent it to the author. His first work. He read through, then called to say now he knows why editors are held in high esteem by published authors. Me? Been smiling all day. A happy author. This is why I'm an editor, bringing words to life. 😊
@oku_yungx
This applies to many other professions too. Marry right or stay single. Marriage to a problematic and uncouth partner will be your downfall. You will never make progress, no matter how hard you try or the effort you put into your work.
And this is for both men and women.
@ShoutsAndMiras
This is really good! Thank you for all your efforts, you're doing a great job with agriculture. And we do want to make Nigeria great again! 🤓
@AfroVII
@ShoutsAndMiras
It really does feel awful but the truth is you'll get over it eventually. I let go of a childhood friend who was obviously didn't wanted me as a friend anymore. So hey, we grow older, priorities change, you let go and live again. You'll be fine. Hugs.
@ACharityHudley
I studied Linguistics, and majored in Sociolinguistics. I can't even imagine a Linguistics Department without Sociolinguistics. How is that even possible?
My client got an order for 1500 copies of her book and wants me to edit the 3rd edition. I wrote her movie script, writing a TV series, and now this! She says I'm the best thing that happened to her.
If you see someone with a swollen head and a wide smile... That would be me 😁
Nigerian-English is very interesting. Many of the words do not exist, or are given a different meaning based on how the word sounds. Like saying "jubilate" instead of "rejoice", and "bogus" to mean big or large. Yet we always know what these words mean within context.
#NGEdits
Had a long talk and realised that I'm stronger than I think. I got my life back, changed profession, moved house, and changed lifestyle... I refused to be oppressed. The PTSD still kicks in sometimes, but I'm stronger, focused and living it. 'Cos life truly is for living. 💌
@WildChefHuman
Errr... Why would you go on a dinner/lunch date and not finish your food? Food is meant to be eaten. Enjoy the food!
* I love to cook, and I love it even more when the food is well eaten and my guest is satisfied.
Made my chillie chutney:
Roughly blend chillies (rodo), red/yellow peppers, onions, garlic and ginger with a little olive oil (tip from
@WildChefHuman
Thank you!) Fry on low heat. Add seasoning. Cool and store in a jar.
*add soy sauce for a great dip or just add to cooking.
I'm watching a Nigerian movie called
#TheWeddingParty
on Netflix and getting MY ENTIRE LIFE from the mother of the bride. My whole life. This woman is the level of extra I aspire to be. She doesn't do anything by halves or with restraint 🔥
@ikeanya
I have read and heard several concepts of marriage from decades ago, which are so sweet different from today. Even my grandfather had an interesting one. I'm sure your book will be an interesting read and look forward to it.
There are so many people going through rough and tough situations, but still going on with a smile. You'd never know they were breaking inside. One little thing can bring a flood of emotions, and you'd wonder why they are devastated... I should know. I'm one of them right now.
@ThatPHCBoy
I can relate to this. When church people do the unspeakable. It just makes you leave and nit want to go back. I saw something similar and changed church.
@oku_yungx
Many people do terrible things in the name of church. I have encountered 'christians' who have zero integrity and bitterness embedded in them. Truly, their character has no bearing on what they represent or preach. It is so disheartening.
@MrMekzy_
Honestly. And when the realisation hits you, you are shocked that you had even been friends with them and for so long. 'Cos how on earth didn't you notice the toxicity? Truth is, we often make excuses for our friends, yet it's just them being the toxic person that they are.
@RedPenRabbit
This! Whenever I receive a manuscript for editing, I tell the author that I will do an assessment to determine the extent of editing required. All authors do not write the same way, thus they won't have the same editing fee no matter the word count. I give considerations.
@ThatPHCBoy
I read the thread, and I'm appalled. This really didn't have to come to this. What happened to being nice, or showing kindness/understanding as a vendor? People really need to be nicer, especially in customer service.
@imoteda
I know this stress... Some years ago, I was once made to spend 3 days in a room next to the room where these people's father was buried. The markings were clearly there. I couldn't sleep the entire time, returned home and fell sick. It wasn't a pleasant experience. Never again.
@DrJoeAbah
@JajaPhD
How anti-social! And on a date too, yet it happens all the time. But my hubby is bea. Whenever we are together, he never touches his phone. He won't even answer a call, he'll just say he'll call back later. And i dont use my phone either. Its total concentration on each other.
@meshkiey
Ha... this trekking thing. "Come, let's just go down the road." 3hrs later and we haven't gotten to "down the road". I have a friend who does this. What our legs saw. Azuka... 😩
@adaobi76
Nothing weird about that. I love developmental editing as it helps my creative juices flow, and copyediting comes natural to me. This is my "weird" and it absolutely love it. To me, proofreading is the icing on the cake. Savour and enjoy with a smile.
