A few thoughts on Roquan Smith (a mini-thread): his contribution to the Ravens defense is borne out in the numbers that many have posted, on the significantly improved efficiency of the unit since he joined, but it also passes the eye test... 1/6

Whenever I hear any national media criticism of the Ravens or hype for any rivals for next season I just think about three of the most important positions in football: QB: Lamar Jackson (soon to be long term deal) LT: Ronnie Stanley (UFA in 2026) CB: Marlon Humphrey (UFA in 2027)

When Williams gets announced officially, I'm sure we will hear the Ravens brass talk about his processing. He reads the game so well. As he was a possibility I studied him against Brady recently and it was a chess match. At 25, the game is only going to get slower for him

Have to watch the film back but gotta say, on first look, I was impressed by the way Mike Macdonald called his first game against a better offense than people think and a good play-caller opposite him. Loved how he used the secondary and changed up how the Ravens brought pressure

Insticitive, rangy, gets hands on the ball, true center-fielder in New Orleans. Always got the feeling he could be even more valuable to a team if asked to do more. He will get that chance in Baltimore. Age and that potential make this a great fit for the Ravens at that price

One of the smartest teams from a personnel standpoint, and the very best defense - the 49ers - also pay one of the best off-ball LBs nearly $20m a year ($19m) in Fred Warner. Being an off-ball LB should not automatically stop a team from ponying up for one of the best 6/6

This is a Kevin Zeitler tweet. Watched some OGs recently who struggle in pass pro - when you see it so frequently you appreciate just how devastating poor Guard play can be to a passing game. We get lost in a long off-season and forget that the 1st addition was the most important

Mike Macdonald is an interesting choice for the Ravens. There aren't too many ways he breaks the Ravens' DC hiring practices except one: he's young. Every other DC Harbaugh has hired has been 50 or older at the time of hiring. Macdonald is 34.

The Brown trade feels eerily similar to the Brown trade from a year ago... in that it seems like the right deal for all parties in isolation BUT it leaves the Ravens with an additional hole to fill. Last year they chose to fill other holes and it came back to haunt them

Every year, each Ravens scout is allowed to put one red star on a player they think plays most like a Raven. I don't envy them as I always find this hard to do for just one guy but, I'm through most of my film now, and I would put mine on Max Melton out of Rutgers...

Yes, Hollywood was open (and I accept Huntley could have been patient, set his feet and thrown to him) but Huntley is pulling the trigger to Andrews before he's even remotely in his eyeline. There has to have been some level of predetermination that the ball was going to Andrews

Macdonald called a good game in week 1, this was clearly the opposite. Last week was a departure from his predecessor, this week; repeating mistakes of the past. Inexperienced guys on the back end being left with no margin for error due to over-aggression/desperation for pressure

Disagree with the playcall too but with some nuance. Was that their playcall all week if they needed a 2pt conversion; half field read for a young QB? The issue for me then, is not seeing that he was making great decisions all night and could have handled more, even in a big spot

I wanted to give a reason to follow along with my coverage of the Draft this year; my credentials if you will. I definitely have my misses, but I've hit on plenty of evaluations too. So I'm leaving my final comment on Kyle Hamilton, that I wrote pre-draft in 2022, as my evidence

I'm not saying we good but watching this Raiders team against the Steelers, especially the defensive front (I know, I know, Steelers OL), you should feel a little better about last week. Said it in a few places this week but this Raiders team is no joke, they will be competitive

Looking at the Ravens draft tendencies at DB in prep for a post, got to Marlon - it really was remarkable what he did last year moving to play nickel and so well too with no experience of it; at Bama he played a total of 39 snaps over the slot (per PFF) his whole college career

I've said in a few places this week, Tyler Huntley has played well enough that you don't rush Lamar Jackson back from a potentially mobility-compromising injury in a game in which you're facing a HOF QB with none of the season-opening members of your secondary, save Tavon Young

As we enter Draft season, if you had to distil what a "Raven" looks like, when evaluating players for this team, to just 3 characteristics, what would they be? My current 3 (the challenge is to only pick the most important 3)... *Toughness/Physicality *Intelligence *Versatility

I LOVE that pick, Ben Cleveland one of my guys - he comes off the ball hard, he moves people, he finishes and he is nasty. He is also a pretty good mover, should fit really nicely in our scheme. That'll more than do

I know #RavensFlock understands this but other fanbases don't. I have actually missed watching a blocking TE every week. (That term doesn't remotely do him justice) If you ever need to explain "Play like a Raven" just show them Nick Boyle. Can't wait to have him back.

the mans hamstring ripped off the bone on top of destroying his knee and fracturing his tibia .. I’m thankful a bulky knee brace is all he’s got ♥️ let’s go baby!

Have to think the change in offensive identity, moving to Todd Monken as OC, allowed a move like this to happen. Hard to believe Odell Beckham Jr signs on to play in the Ravens' offense of recent years

One final picture as the sun set on Washington, and my trip. I wanted to say... people can be cynical about America and point out the many flaws. But as I travelled the country for 10 days I was reminded over and again, of the many reasons I love the US. I hope I'll be back soon
