in July 1990, Nezzar became Minister of Defence, the 1st time since 1965 that this post was separated from the Presidency in 1988, Nezzar was only the 2nd man to hold the rank of Chief of the General Staff since it was abolished by Boumediene after Zbiri’s attempted coup in 1967

Mohamed Lamari visited this very same place in August 2001, to seek U.S. support for ANP modernization. Even with Bouteflika’s repeated visits to Washington in 2001 & 2002, the U.S. at the peak of its war on terror remained reluctant to provide Algeria with lethal weaponry.

June 28, 1973 Mossad assassinates Algerian operative Mohamed Boudia. The Palestinian Black September Org retaliated 48 hours later by assassinating Colonel Yosef Alon, the Israeli attaché at the Washington, D.C. embassy. The KGB assigned Carlos the Jackal to replace Boudia.

1969 - Black Panther Party visit the PLO office in Algiers. A CIA document dated Feb 12, 1971, reported that: “Panther activities have recently taken some interesting turns, Leary had smuggled twenty thousand hits of LSD into Algiers and was planning to turn on all of Africa.”
