Rational creates the need for Romanticism Positional play(PP) is the zonal occupation of specific zones to gain advantages. In PP the football only starts when the structure is in place. The "structure" is the most important. Given the importance of structure, coaches are often the ones deciding proceedings before the players. Due to the unprecedented success Pep had with this model of coaching alot of people started using his ideas and it even permeated into youth football. Given PP is a very rational/structural way of playing, almost every game looks the same and thus people wanted abit more romance. Relational play is a ball-oriented approach where players position themselves around the ball handler, dynamically adjusting in relation to their teammates, opponents, and available space. It encourages "romance" through quick exchanges such as give-and-gos, escadinha combinations, etc. While this style thrives on spontaneity, it still acknowledges structural patterns like the escadinha. However, unlike PP these structures emerge organically through movement, though they can also be artificial. Relational play encourages coming to the ball and looking to form connections due to the proximity of your teammates, so it allows players more room to express themselves. Its asking players to take responsibility for the game. Positional play seeks to SOLVE football - By doing this the opposition does that, etc. Relational play seeks to EXPLORE football. It believes in the endless possibilities that football can bring and embraces the limitless. Its very applicable to life. There are those who try to plan out everything in their lives and have strict codes they follow in order to minimize danger, etc. There are those who simply allow the world flow and seek to explore its limitless. Personally there's no right/wrong. Its simply another path.
@NewsJeffJ1 Detailed difference between Positional football and Relationism?

@speedfreak97688 Estevao on the wing with Palmer inside - Ideally want rotations between the 2 in possession. Reece as the RCB to make over/underlapping runs when we have the ball.

@speedfreak97688 Paez is a 10. He can play in both half spaces, but can be developed to play in the pivot. Ideally you want him as a 8(but needs to work on his out of possession game)

@Tushar_9_ I havent really been scouting GKs so I cant help you here. I think the club probably stick with the GKs we have for next season. Petrovic has done well on loan.

@anany1707 Delap is decent, but I will pick Osimhen, Sesko, Samu, Barry, etc before him. I rate him, but not as much as some on here.

@geniuznate1 There are lots of good articles out there that detail the differences. I could write something small on my personal views on it.

@NiiNiiFC Generally think we will have to be more fluid in how we play with emphasis on keeping the ball even more. We would have to stop pressing high as well and use a mid block much more. If we do want to press high and play on the transition, Noni as the ST
With Nico out until April, we have to fundamentally change how we play. I think Maresca goes for a very fluid heavy possession game if we see Palmer/Nkunku as the 9s. A bigger emphasis on slow progression, progressing higher together, and pinning teams back for sustained dominance. A more passive approach out of possession in the high press with an aggressive mid block as we saw earlier in the season. Noni is a really good shout against teams that leave space in behind. He will run in behind, be active, support Palmer, and overall has decent movement. We also need most of our attackers to step up because Jackson was getting most of our G/A along with Palmer. Neto, Noni, Nkunku and even Enzo will need to help the team with numbers. Whenever James is available it will best to set up the team to allow him forward because we will need it. This is a really huge upcoming test for Maresca. We can only wait and see how he juggles everything.

@JHarrisCFC Think we can pull through if players step up but that's a 50/50. Honestly tough to say RN. I need to see our general approach in the next 2 games
