A deputy on patrol shortly after 1am this morning spotted a fire near Scott's Flat Rd and Highway 20. With a quick response from fire resources, the fire was immediately contained. There are currently no fires in Nevada County.

Today, an autopsy was conducted on the deceased individual who was found in the Prosser Reservoir on Sunday, August 21st. The Nevada County Sheriff-Coroner has identified the decedent as 16-year-old Kiely Rodni, of Truckee. More info:

Deputy plays song to brighten man’s day
Deputy Morgan conducted a welfare check on a man who had been going through a hard time. When the man learned Deputy Morgan was a musician like him, he handed him his guitar to play, & Deputy Morgan didn’t disappoint. The man was grateful.
(PV Arson Incident 2 of 3) Some of the 911 calls also noted there was a suspicious male seen fleeing from the fires. The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office located the male, identified as 43-year-old Zachary Ryan Bayne, of Penn Valley, and detained him.

(1 of 2) Thanks to fast-acting first responders and neighbors, this new fire, incidentally called Lobo, was immediately contained and stomped out at 1/10 of an acre. Approx. 12 neighbors came out ready with fire extinguishers, which helped prevent spread and aided firefighters.
One of our deputies escorted Cayla Montre to school today where she and her entire class enjoyed a Donuts with Deputies party, met Sheriff Shannan Moon, K9 Vito, and checked out our patrol vehicles. Cayla is one of two children who tied for first place in our holiday card contest

: U.S. Forest Service-Tahoe National Forest, in cooperation with CAL FIRE NEU and other jurisdictions, report minimal growth overnight, 30.9 acres, 5% containment, 300+ staff assigned.
Our deputies went shopping for toys at Foothill Mercantile this morning. Thanks to the generosity of the Nevada County Deputy Sheriff's Association who footed the bill and Foothill Mercantile who greatly discounted the toys, 50 local children have been sponsored for the holidays.
