I did not learn about ethnic studies until the 1st year of my PhD program. I was 32 years old, had taught for 9 years, and it was life-changing. The rest of my PhD was devoted to learning & teaching Asian Am histories.
Today, I became an affiliate of CU Boulder Ethnic Studies 🥳

This is not the way. My students know I’m a whole person with a family and stuff in my life beyond their class. My dad had major surgery on Monday and I told my students that I might be distracted or need to cancel and they understood completely. No need to pretend we’re robots!
