I still don’t think journalists, creatives, thought leaders, and everyone who’s been part of the *resistence* are prepared for what’s coming our way. For one thing, to restrict movement and coordination, there is no doubt in my mind many of us will soon be added to no-fly lists.

This feels so much worse than 2016. I have no words for all my friends with young children. I have no words for all my trans friends. I have no words for all those in my life who lead with truth, empathy, and hope. I have no words for so many. This is much worse than 2016.

When they defend their book banning and calls for censorship by saying it’s about parental rights or about protecting kids, they’re lying to you. Either knowingly or with willful ignorance, they are sharing scripted talking points, looking you in the eye, and lying to you.

Book banning and censorship is about power and control. It's about limiting access and limiting knowledge. It’s a well-coordinated and well-funded campaign that is ruthless, relentless, and cruel. It’s an orchestrated and insidious campaign to erase identities, to erase kids.

Queer kids need to have access to books that value their existence. Queer kids need to have access to books that celebrate their lives. Queer kids need to know that these books exist. Banning books is not about books. Banning books is about the erasure of identities.
