Thank you! Indeed, the Bundesgrenzschutz also fielded M8 Greyhounds and MOWAG Wotans (seen in the second picture there) with Hispano Suiza’s 20mms alongside the Saladins. If I remember correctly, or I may be confusing them with the Bundeswehr, I’ll have to check, they briefly used Lee Enfields too.

@jock5903 Thank you for reading! You can even make direct comparisons with the Sdkfz 251 and 222 in a way with them

🧵Early IFVs of the Bundeswehr (1/9) During the Second World War, motorization and mechanization allowed many nations to adopt manoeuvre warfare on a scale never seen before, with the Wehrmacht’s or the Waffen-SS’s Panzergrenadiers and Panzertruppe often highlighted as prime examples despite its own flaws, notably shortages in equipment. This philosophy manifested after the war ended, as armies attempted to figure out the right formula for a modern military capable of conducting mobile warfare, such as the Bundeswehr.

(9/9) Thanks to its infamous ‘long’ counterpart, the SPz. Kurz is underappreciated and underrecognized despite its longer service in the Bundeswehr. It was also one of the few ground vehicles the Bundeswehr operated that were fully designed and produced from another country that wasn’t the United States. Had things gone differently, it might’ve not been the only one, as the Bundeswehr also trialed the Panhard EBRs to fill reconnaissance duties, though it was never procured. Thank you for reading my first full-length thread. I’d love to hear some comments and feedback. The next thread will either be the early Panzergrenadiere order of battle or the early days of the Bundesgrenzschutz. Works Cited: - Senger und Etterlin, Ferdinand Maria von. Die Panzergrenadiere. - Deinhardt, André. Panzergrenadiere im Kalten Krieg. - Richter, Andreas. SPz kurz, Hotchkiss (Bw), ---- Schützenpanzer lang HS-30 (Bw),
