@JamesAFurey My school district (nycdoe) has no attendance policy and NYS no longer has a seat time requirement for credits. My class website is not the problem.

@rpondiscio Direct instruction never went away. We just don’t do it when we are being observed.

@BadSchoolparent @NatashaCoster1 @greg_ashman Yes and bc it’s a huge admin burden, it largely doesn’t happen and teachers play whack-a-mole all day.

@marcportermagee It’s kind of like the $800 million dollar stimulus program: there just weren’t structures and programs and “ready to go.” And what was “ready to go” was plugging budget shortfalls from enrollment drops.

@Debi22979287 @rpondiscio Interesting. When I spot check suburban districts they all have a clear one posted, as do the local charters. But it’s true, we made school optional during the pandemic and it’s hard to walk that back.

@rpondiscio And if charters were conceived to be “laboratories of ideas” then why aren’t we allowed to adopt some of their successful attendance and lateness policies which have disciplines allowed that are not permitted under our discipline policy?

@JValentineDE @marcportermagee I am not blaming the kids but I AM blaming the school you went to for not teaching you how to interpret data.

@JValentineDE @marcportermagee Right. The results would be exactly the same without the selection bias.

@jonmedeiros @FreeSpeech3291 @FixingEducation You leave your class unattended to go to the bathroom?

@rpondiscio I think many people who have been posting about this are confusing “engaging” with “entertaining.”
