@MatthewCappucci @MatthewCappucci a strike-slip may not be the primary big mover of tsunamis, but they can be generated. More important are the secondary effects- releasing underwater landslides which may also produce tsunamis. It's a complicated and hard to track issue.

@ChaliceGarden @jonovision_man a 1-foot tsunami is enough to wreck a harbor.

@mikegaichas Neither. A tsunami is the full water column moving ashore- it's a full force flood, not a wind wave on the surface. And not a push of water from the wind.

@Beanzzzz @SarahSchacht @hola_mamas_ There is no threat for an inundating tsunami there. There may be unusual currents for a time- this is a typical effect following a significant earthquake and tsunami. CA scuba divers reported this after the Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha'apai event in 2022.

@BrooksWeather The forecast for Cuba is still as much as 3 meters; the forecast for Honduras and the Cayman Islands is for 0.3m to 1m. The threat continues and in these areas, is much larger than observed in MX. A tsunami is not a tidal wave- that's the surf. A tsunami is more powerful.

🟣International threat messages continue for Cuba, Honduras, & the Cayman Islands. A tsunami is measured in Mexico, Isla Mujeres, at 0103 UTC, at 3 cm / 1.2 in. While that sounds small, it's a necessary confirmation that a tsunami is occurring. for more

@jonovision_man A one to three-foot tsunami is still an impressive force of nature capable of strong and unusual currents, impacting boats, harbors, and piers. It's not a surf wave. Stay away from the coast in the Advisory area.

@JayDook it's the ground shaking (Rayleigh wave) being recorded at that buoy. It's not a water signal.
