Just a small observation that few are addressing. Societies are charging about $1,000 for registration for their meetings. Isn't this an exorbitant amount? Who can afford this, plus travel, plus hotel, plus food, plus parking or other transportation? Just asking. .

When I read/hear researchers being proud of the cover pages in journals, I think what is hidden behind all this. Vanity! Well funded lab "burn" funds for cover figures. $3k to $5k paid to publishers for each cover page. Please use your funds to support poor students instead.

A major loss for all of us. Allan Hoffman (1932-2023) Univ_Washington passed away today. Allan was my academic brother (PhD '57 MIT) and great mentor. Devastated. He was such an inspiration to all of us. All in tears after we received the news about an hour ago. RIP.

After an incredibly successful Virtual @CRSScience meeting (#CRS2020vAM) I wonder why we spend thousands $ in "live" meetings for 4-5 talks and a few posters. In 3 days I attended 56 talks, 40 posters, 3 Board meetings and said "hi" to > 150 colleagues for the prize of $249!.

I am very sorry to hear that Professor Hiroshi Maeda passed away on May 18th at the age of 82 due to liver failure. A giant in our field. Recognized for the discovery of the EPR effect and also discovery of the oxygen radical formation in viral infection and pathogenesis.
